A Seven-Day Holy Week Reading Route
Holy Week moves from Jesus' entry into Jerusalem to His suffering, death and the Christian proclamation of resurrection. A reading plan is more useful than a single slogan.
Start the conversation
Read the accounts in all four Gospels when you can. They share central events but differ in selection and sequence of details.
Practical next steps
Day 1: read Mark 11 and note Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and actions around the temple.
Days 2-3: read Mark 12-13 for teaching, conflict and warnings; ask what the original hearers understood.
Day 4: read John 13-17 for Jesus' final teaching, love, service and prayer.
Day 5: read Mark 14-15 and sit with the betrayal, arrest, trial and crucifixion without rushing past grief.
Days 6-7: read Luke 23-24 and John 20, comparing how the writers describe the burial, empty tomb and appearances.
Read Scripture with the group
Mark 15:37-39 โ The passion narrative places Jesus' death at the center of the story.
Luke 24:1-12 โ Luke narrates the discovery of the empty tomb.
1 Corinthians 15:3-8 โ Paul recounts early resurrection proclamation and witnesses.
Discuss and respond
What changes when you give the whole story time rather than moving directly to the celebration?
Important: A seven-day reading sequence is devotional, not a claim to settle every disputed detail of the historical chronology.
