Read Jesus' Life Across the Four Gospels
Rather than force every event into a disputed chronology, use a sequence of major themes and read how each Gospel presents Jesus.
Start the conversation
Begin with Mark 1 and Luke 1, then compare Matthew's opening and John's prologue. These entrances tell you a great deal about each book's emphasis.
Practical next steps
Origins and preparation: Luke 1-3, Matthew 1-4 and John 1 frame Jesus' birth, identity, baptism and ministry in different ways.
Public ministry: read Mark 1-8 and Luke 4-9 for teaching, healings, parables, conflict and questions about Jesus' identity.
Toward Jerusalem: follow Mark 8-10 and Luke 9-19, where discipleship, power, mercy and suffering become central.
The final week, cross and resurrection: read Mark 11-16, Matthew 21-28, Luke 19-24 and John 12-21. Compare each writer's treatment of witnesses and meaning.
Read Scripture with the group
Mark 1:14-15 — Jesus announces God's kingdom and calls for repentance and faith.
John 20:30-31 — John says his selected accounts are written with a purpose in view.
Discuss and respond
Which scene makes Jesus' priorities clearest to you? How do the other Gospels illuminate it?
Important: Different Gospel chronologies are debated. This is a learning route, not a claim to settle each date or sequence.
