The Power of Prayer

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 14:13-14, KJV

Why Should We Pray?

The Bible tells us that God has commanded us to pray about everything without being anxious and with a thankful heart. On a very basic physical level, prayer has been shown to reduce stress, fend off depression, encourage healthy sleep patterns, and generally increase your lifespan. However, the spiritual benefits prayer provides are of much greater significance.

These things have I written unto you
that believe on the name of the Son of God;
that ye may know that ye have eternal life,
and that ye may believe
on the name of the Son of God.
And this is the confidence that we have in him,
that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask,
we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

  • Prayer Acknowledges Our Acceptance Of God
God sacrificed His only Son to provide us a plan for eternal salvation. Prayer recognizes His gift and shows that we accept God's place as our Holy Father and sovereign king.

  • Prayer Is A Form Of Worship
Webster's Dictionary defines worship as "to honor with extravagant love and extreme submission." Worshipping God through prayer places Him as our topmost priority.

  • Prayer Shows Gratitude
We have so much for which to be grateful. Prayer acknowledges God's blessings and shows our appreciation for all He does for us. It proclaims our joy and gratitude.

  • Prayer Allows Us To Ask For Help
We all need help at times. Through prayer we reach out to God and place our troubles before Him. We also pray for others who need hope lightening all of our burdens.

  • Prayer Provides A Way To Ask For Forgiveness
In humility and sincerity we must approach God, acknowledge our sins, and ask for His forgiveness. Prayer facilitates repentance and redemption through His love.

  • Prayer Reveals God's Will
God has a plan for each of our lives. The Bible gives us direction, but the only way we can learn about His personal vision for us is to listen to Him directly through prayer.
