WEEK 6 OF 6 · FACILITATOR'S SHEET

Preaching, Service and a Responsible Next Step

Bring biblical study, ethical communication and practical care together without inventing credentials.

Learning goal: Each participant prepares a source-grounded teaching outline and an accountable community-care proposal, then identifies what still requires qualified supervision.

Limits: This is an educational lesson outline. It is not an official safeguarding policy, clinical advice, supervised ministry, accreditation or ordination. No private disclosures should be recorded on this worksheet.

Prepare the room and your approach

This is the closing session of a short church-resource series, not an ordination service, diploma ceremony or assessment by qualified faculty. Give feedback on learners' demonstrated reasoning and care plans, not claims about spiritual worth. Be clear that formal ministry work requires actual church authorization and safeguards; students may continue with the non-degree Pastoral Ministry Training self-study program.

TimeActivityWhat the facilitator does
0–10 minutesReview the principlesAsk each participant to identify one lesson about scriptural context, one about listening, one about safeguarding and one about accountability that they intend to remember.
10–25 minutesRead and source a teaching textChoose a short passage and compare it with a historical source that can be cited from the Heritage Reading Room. Ask whether its rhetorical application is actually supported by Scripture.
25–40 minutesDraft a short teaching planBuild a three-part outline with a clear main idea, two evidence-based points and one respectful action people may choose. Include citations and avoid unverifiable illustrations.
40–55 minutesDesign a service proposalWrite a modest community-care action with a person responsible, needed resources, consent, safety, financial controls and a way to check whether help was useful.
55–70 minutesHonest review and next stepsHave learners share an optional observation, identify what remains uncertain and receive feedback on their outlines. Explain how to pursue longer study, approved volunteering, mentor oversight and appropriate church authorization without claiming that this course issues formal standing.

Discussion questions

  1. How do you explain the difference between passing a short course and being authorized to perform ministry duties?
  2. What sources should someone check before repeating a historical anecdote?
  3. How can the group offer real help without using it to pressure religious participation?
  4. Which types of responsibilities require qualified mentors, independent assessment or legal reporting?

Follow-up exercise

Create a two-page capstone: one page of original Scripture-based teaching and one page of a fictional service proposal with consent, budget and safeguarding controls. Record peer feedback and one revision. Keep it as educational work unless a legitimately qualified reviewer later evaluates it under an authorized program.

Facilitator safeguarding and ethics reminder

Do not label an attendance acknowledgment as a recognized pastoral certificate or suggest that unsupervised service hours have become verified. Respect the limits of the course.
