1 Kings 9:2that Jehovah appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.1 Kings 9:3And Jehovah said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.1 Kings 9:4And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and mine ordinances;1 Kings 9:5then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom over Israel for ever, according as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.1 Kings 9:6But if ye shall turn away from following me, ye or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;1 Kings 9:7then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.1 Kings 9:8And though this house is so high, yet shall every one that passeth by it be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath Jehovah done thus unto this land, and to this house?1 Kings 9:9and they shall answer, Because they forsook Jehovah their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath Jehovah brought all this evil upon them.1 Kings 11:9And Jehovah was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Jehovah, the God of Israel, who had appeared unto him twice,1 Kings 11:10and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which Jehovah commanded.1 Kings 11:11Wherefore Jehovah said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.1 Kings 11:12Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father’s sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.1 Kings 11:13Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.1 Kings 11:14And Jehovah raised up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king’s seed in Edom.1 Kings 11:23And God raised up another adversary unto him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.1 Kings 12:1And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.1 Kings 12:2And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,1 Kings 12:3and they sent and called him), that Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,1 Kings 12:4Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.1 Kings 12:5And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.1 Kings 12:6And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?1 Kings 12:7And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.1 Kings 12:8But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.1 Kings 12:9And he said unto them, What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?1 Kings 12:10And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.1 Kings 12:11And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.1 Kings 12:12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.1 Kings 12:13And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,1 Kings 12:14and spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.1 Kings 12:15So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was a thing brought about of Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spake by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.1 Kings 12:16And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.1 Kings 12:17But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.1 Kings 12:18Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to taskwork; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.1 Kings 12:19So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.1 Kings 12:20And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.1 Kings 12:21And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.1 Kings 12:22But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,1 Kings 12:23Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,1 Kings 12:24Thus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me.
