GROWING IN CHRIST
A New Believer’s Guide
Following Christ is not about learning a secret religious system. It is learning to know God, trust His Word, pray, live differently, and grow alongside other believers.
1Begin reading the Bible.
Start with one of the Gospels—John is an excellent place to begin. Read slowly enough to notice what Jesus says and does. When something confuses you, search it in the Bible Study Center instead of skipping it forever.
Read John 1 → 2Talk to God honestly.
Prayer is not a performance. Thank God, confess sin, ask for wisdom, pray for other people, and tell Him what you are afraid of. Jesus taught His followers to pray, and prayer becomes more natural through practice.
Use the prayer guide → 3Find a healthy local church.
Christian faith is personal, but it was never meant to be isolated. Look for a church that takes Scripture seriously, centers its teaching on Jesus Christ, practices humility and accountability, and does not pressure people through fear, money, or personality worship.
4Learn about baptism and communion.
Christians across traditions agree these matter, although churches differ on some details. Read the relevant Scripture and speak with trustworthy church leadership about how your congregation practices them.
5Expect growth to take time.
Some changes may come quickly; others may take years. You will still face temptation, questions, discouragement, and difficult seasons. Spiritual maturity is not pretending those struggles do not exist. It is learning where to turn when they do.
6Do not build your faith on one personality.
Pastors, teachers, authors, and ministries can help, but Christ is the center. Read Scripture yourself. Check what you hear. Healthy Christian leaders should point you toward Jesus and truth, not make themselves indispensable.
7Practice forgiveness, generosity, and service.
The Christian life moves outward. Ask where you can help, who needs encouragement, where you need to make something right, and how you can use what God has given you for someone besides yourself.
8Keep coming back to grace.
When you fail, confess it and keep walking. When you do well, do not become proud. Christianity is not a contest to prove that you are better than somebody else. We remain people who need grace from beginning to end.
