Genesis 30:43Thus Jacob became exceedingly prosperous. He owned large flocks, maidservants and menservants, and camels and donkeys.Genesis 31:3Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your kindred, and I will be with you.”Genesis 32:1Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.Genesis 32:2When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is the camp of God.” So he named that place Mahanaim.Genesis 32:28Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men, and you have prevailed.”Genesis 33:4Esau, however, ran to him and embraced him, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. He has been with me wherever I have gone.”Genesis 35:4So they gave Jacob all their foreign gods and all their earrings, and Jacob buried them under the oak near Shechem.Genesis 35:5As they set out, a terror from God fell over the surrounding cities, so that they did not pursue Jacob’s sons.Genesis 35:6So Jacob and everyone with him arrived in Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.Genesis 35:7There Jacob built an altar, and he called that place El-bethel, because it was there that God had revealed Himself to Jacob as he fled from his brother.Genesis 35:8Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried under the oak below Bethel. So Jacob named it Allon-bacuth.Genesis 35:9After Jacob had returned from Paddan-aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him.Genesis 35:10And God said to him, “Though your name is Jacob, you will no longer be called Jacob. Instead, your name will be Israel.” So God named him Israel.Genesis 35:11And God told him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation—even a company of nations—shall come from you, and kings shall descend from you.Genesis 35:12The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.”Genesis 35:13Then God went up from the place where He had spoken with him.Genesis 35:14So Jacob set up a pillar in the place where God had spoken with him—a stone marker—and he poured out a drink offering on it and anointed it with oil.Genesis 35:15Jacob called the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.Genesis 35:16Later, they set out from Bethel, and while they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth, and her labor was difficult.Genesis 35:17During her severe labor, the midwife said to her, “Do not be afraid, for you are having another son.”Genesis 35:18And with her last breath—for she was dying—she named him Ben-oni. But his father called him Benjamin.Genesis 35:19So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).Genesis 35:20Jacob set up a pillar on her grave; it marks Rachel’s tomb to this day.Genesis 35:22While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it. Jacob had twelve sons:Genesis 35:23The sons of Leah were Reuben the firstborn of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.Genesis 35:24The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.Genesis 35:25The sons of Rachel’s maidservant Bilhah were Dan and Naphtali.Genesis 35:26And the sons of Leah’s maidservant Zilpah were Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan-aram.Genesis 35:27Jacob returned to his father Isaac at Mamre, near Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.Genesis 36:6Later, Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the people of his household, along with his livestock, all his other animals, and all the property he had acquired in Canaan, and he moved to a land far away from his brother Jacob.Genesis 36:7For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together; the land where they stayed could not support them because of their livestock.Genesis 37:1Now Jacob lived in the land where his father had resided, the land of Canaan.Genesis 37:3Now Israel loved Joseph more than his other sons, because Joseph had been born to him in his old age; so he made him a robe of many colors.Genesis 37:4When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.Genesis 37:9Then Joseph had another dream and told it to his brothers. “Look,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”Genesis 37:10He told his father and brothers, but his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream that you have had? Will your mother and brothers and I actually come and bow down to the ground before you?”Genesis 37:11And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept in mind what he had said.Genesis 37:34Then Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth around his waist, and mourned for his son many days.Genesis 37:35All his sons and daughters tried to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “No,” he said. “I will go down to Sheol mourning for my son.” So his father wept for him.Genesis 42:1When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why are you staring at one another?”Genesis 42:2“Look,” he added, “I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die.”Genesis 42:36Their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my sons. Joseph is gone and Simeon is no more. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is going against me!”Genesis 43:1Now the famine was still severe in the land.Genesis 43:2So when Jacob’s sons had eaten all the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, “Go back and buy us a little more food.”Genesis 43:3But Judah replied, “The man solemnly warned us, ‘You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.’Genesis 43:4If you will send our brother with us, we will go down and buy food for you.Genesis 43:5But if you will not send him, we will not go; for the man told us, ‘You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.’”Genesis 43:6“Why did you bring this trouble upon me?” Israel asked. “Why did you tell the man you had another brother?”Genesis 43:7They replied, “The man questioned us in detail about ourselves and our family: ‘Is your father still alive? Do you have another brother?’ And we answered him accordingly. How could we possibly know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother here’?”Genesis 43:8And Judah said to his father Israel, “Send the boy with me, and we will go at once, so that we may live and not die—neither we, nor you, nor our children.Genesis 43:9I will guarantee his safety. You may hold me personally responsible. If I do not bring him back and set him before you, then may I bear the guilt before you all my life.Genesis 43:10If we had not delayed, we could have come and gone twice by now.”Genesis 43:11Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your packs and carry them down as a gift for the man—a little balm and a little honey, spices and myrrh, pistachios and almonds.
