John 19:24So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it. Instead, let us cast lots to see who will get it.” This was to fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My garments among them, and cast lots for My clothing.” So that is what the soldiers did.John 19:25Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother and her sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene.John 19:26When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, here is your son.”John 19:27Then He said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” So from that hour, this disciple took her into his home.John 19:28After this, knowing that everything had now been accomplished, and to fulfill the Scripture, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”John 19:29A jar of sour wine was sitting there. So they soaked a sponge in the wine, put it on a stalk of hyssop, and lifted it to His mouth.John 19:30When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished.” And bowing His head, He yielded up His spirit.John 19:31It was the day of Preparation, and the next day was a High Sabbath. In order that the bodies would not remain on the cross during the Sabbath, the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies removed.John 19:32So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and those of the other.John 19:33But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.John 19:34Instead, one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out.John 19:35The one who saw it has testified to this, and his testimony is true. He knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.John 19:36Now these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of His bones will be broken.”John 19:37And, as another Scripture says: “They will look on the One they have pierced.”John 19:38Afterward, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus (but secretly for fear of the Jews), asked Pilate to let him remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, so he came and removed His body.John 19:39Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.John 19:40So they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom.John 19:41Now there was a garden in the place where Jesus was crucified, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.John 19:42And because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and the tomb was nearby, they placed Jesus there.John 20:1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.John 20:2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,” she said, “and we do not know where they have put Him!”John 20:3Then Peter and the other disciple set out for the tomb.John 20:4The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.John 20:5He bent down and looked in at the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.John 20:6Simon Peter arrived just after him. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there.John 20:7The cloth that had been around Jesus’ head was rolled up, lying separate from the linen cloths.John 20:8Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in. And he saw and believed.John 20:9For they still did not understand from the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.John 20:10Then the disciples returned to their homes.John 20:11But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent down to look into the tomb,John 20:12and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and the other at the feet.John 20:13“Woman, why are you weeping?” they asked. “Because they have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I do not know where they have put Him.”John 20:14When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. But she did not recognize that it was Jesus.John 20:15“Woman, why are you weeping?” Jesus asked. “Whom are you seeking?” Thinking He was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried Him off, tell me where you have put Him, and I will get Him.”John 20:16Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).John 20:17“Do not cling to Me,” Jesus said, “for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and tell My brothers, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’”John 20:18Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what He had said to her.John 20:19It was the first day of the week, and that very evening, while the disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them. “Peace be with you!” He said to them.John 20:20After He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.John 20:21Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.”John 20:22When He had said this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.John 20:23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.”John 20:26Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”John 20:27Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.”John 20:28Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!”John 20:29Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”John 21:1Later, by the Sea of Tiberias, Jesus again revealed Himself to the disciples. He made Himself known in this way:John 21:2Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together.John 21:6He told them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it there, and they were unable to haul it in because of the great number of fish.John 21:15When they had finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus replied, “Feed My lambs.”John 21:16Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd My sheep.”John 21:17Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?” “Lord, You know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.Acts 1:3After His suffering, He presented Himself to them with many convincing proofs that He was alive.
