Judges 9:8One day the trees set out to anoint a king for themselves. They said to the olive tree, ‘Reign over us.’Judges 9:9But the olive tree replied, ‘Should I stop giving my oil that honors both God and man, to hold sway over the trees?’Judges 9:10Then the trees said to the fig tree, ‘Come and reign over us.’Judges 9:11But the fig tree replied, ‘Should I stop giving my sweetness and my good fruit, to hold sway over the trees?’Judges 9:12Then the trees said to the grapevine, ‘Come and reign over us.’Judges 9:13But the grapevine replied, ‘Should I stop giving my wine that cheers both God and man, to hold sway over the trees?’Judges 9:14Finally all the trees said to the thornbush, ‘Come and reign over us.’Judges 9:15But the thornbush replied, ‘If you really are anointing me as king over you, come and find refuge in my shade. I will command the clouds that rain shall not fall on it.”Isaiah 5:7For the vineyard of the LORD of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are the plant of His delight. He looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard a cry of distress.Isaiah 27:2In that day: “Sing about a fruitful vineyard.Isaiah 27:3I, the LORD, am its keeper; I water it continually. I guard it night and day so no one can disturb it;Isaiah 28:23Listen and hear my voice. Pay attention and hear what I say.Isaiah 28:24Does the plowman plow for planting every day? Does he continuously loosen and harrow the soil?Isaiah 28:25When he has leveled its surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cumin? He plants wheat in rows and barley in plots, and rye within its border.Isaiah 28:26For his God instructs and teaches him properly.Isaiah 28:27Surely caraway is not threshed with a sledge, and the wheel of a cart is not rolled over the cumin. But caraway is beaten out with a stick, and cumin with a rod.Isaiah 28:28Grain for bread must be ground, but it is not endlessly threshed. I will allow no mercy or pity or compassion to keep Me from destroying them.’”Jeremiah 17:5This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes mere flesh his strength and turns his heart from the LORD.Jeremiah 17:6He will be like a shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.Jeremiah 17:7But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him.
