Genesis 4:1And Adam had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. “With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man,” she said.Genesis 4:2Later she gave birth to Cain’s brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, while Cain was a tiller of the soil.Genesis 4:3So in the course of time, Cain brought some of the fruit of the soil as an offering to the LORD,Genesis 4:4while Abel brought the best portions of the firstborn of his flock. And the LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,Genesis 4:5but He had no regard for Cain and his offering. You will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”Genesis 4:13But Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.Genesis 4:14Behold, this day You have driven me from the face of the earth, and from Your face I will be hidden; I will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.”Genesis 4:15“Not so!” replied the LORD. “If anyone slays Cain, then Cain will be avenged sevenfold.” And the LORD placed a mark on Cain, so that no one who found him would kill him.Genesis 4:16So Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.Genesis 4:17And Cain had relations with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. And you shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard your cry of affliction.Genesis 16:12He will be a wild donkey of a man, and his hand will be against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him; he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”Genesis 17:1When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty. Walk before Me and be blameless.Genesis 17:2I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.”Genesis 18:1Then the LORD appeared to Abraham by the Oaks of Mamre in the heat of the day, while he was sitting at the entrance of his tent.Genesis 18:2And Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.Genesis 18:3“My lord,” said Abraham, “if I have found favor in your sight, please do not pass your servant by.Genesis 18:4Let a little water be brought, that you may wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree.Genesis 18:5And I will bring a bit of bread so that you may refresh yourselves. This is why you have passed your servant’s way. After that, you may continue on your way.” “Yes,” they replied, “you may do as you have said.”Genesis 18:6So Abraham hurried into the tent and said to Sarah, “Quick! Prepare three seahs of fine flour, knead it, and bake some bread.”Genesis 18:7Meanwhile, Abraham ran to the herd, selected a tender and choice calf, and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it.Genesis 18:8Then Abraham brought curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and he set them before the men and stood by them under the tree as they ate.Genesis 18:9“Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked. “There, in the tent,” he replied.Genesis 18:10Then the LORD said, “I will surely return to you at this time next year, and your wife Sarah will have a son!” Now Sarah was behind him, listening at the entrance to the tent.Genesis 18:11And Abraham and Sarah were already old and well along in years; Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.Genesis 18:12So she laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?”Genesis 18:13And the LORD asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Can I really bear a child when I am old?’Genesis 18:14Is anything too difficult for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you—in about a year—and Sarah will have a son.”Genesis 18:15But Sarah was afraid, so she denied it and said, “I did not laugh.” “No,” replied the LORD, “but you did laugh.”Genesis 18:16When the men got up to leave, they looked out over Sodom, and Abraham walked along with them to see them off.
