Genesis 4:1The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, “I have gotten a man with Yahweh’s help.”Genesis 4:2Again she gave birth, to Cain’s brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.Genesis 4:3As time passed, it happened that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh from the fruit of the ground.Genesis 4:4Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Yahweh respected Abel and his offering,Genesis 4:5but he didn’t respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.Genesis 4:6Yahweh said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen?Genesis 4:7If you do well, will it not be lifted up? If you don’t do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.”Genesis 4:8Cain said to Abel, his brother, “Let’s go into the field.” It happened when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.Genesis 4:9Yahweh said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He said, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”Genesis 4:10Yahweh said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.Genesis 4:11Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.Genesis 4:12From now on, when you till the ground, it won’t yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth.”Genesis 4:13Cain said to Yahweh, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.Genesis 4:14Behold, you have driven me out this day from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. It will happen that whoever finds me will kill me.”Genesis 4:15Yahweh said to him, “Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.” Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should strike him.Genesis 4:16Cain went out from Yahweh’s presence, and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.Genesis 4:17Cain knew his wife. Everything that is in the earth will die.Genesis 6:18But I will establish my covenant with you. You shall come into the ship, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.Genesis 6:19Of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ship, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.Genesis 6:20Of the birds after their kind, of the livestock after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort shall come to you, to keep them alive.Genesis 6:21Take with you of all food that is eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it will be for food for you, and for them.”Genesis 6:22Thus Noah did. Where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.”Genesis 16:9The angel of Yahweh said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.”Genesis 16:10The angel of Yahweh said to her, “I will greatly multiply your seed, that they will not be numbered for multitude.”Genesis 16:11The angel of Yahweh said to her, “Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Yahweh has heard your affliction.Genesis 16:12He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will live opposite all of his brothers.”Genesis 17:1When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty. Walk before me, and be blameless.Genesis 17:2I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”Genesis 18:1Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.Genesis 18:2He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,Genesis 18:3and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.Genesis 18:4Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.Genesis 18:5I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.” They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”Genesis 18:6Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”Genesis 18:7Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.Genesis 18:8He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.Genesis 18:9They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “See, in the tent.”Genesis 18:10He said, “I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.Genesis 18:11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.Genesis 18:12Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”Genesis 18:13Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?’Genesis 18:14Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son.”Genesis 18:15Then Sarah denied, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”Genesis 18:16The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
