1 Samuel 19:15Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”1 Samuel 19:16When the messengers came in, behold, the teraphim was in the bed, with the pillow of goats’ hair at its head.1 Samuel 19:17Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me thus, and let my enemy go, so that he is escaped?” Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go! Why should I kill you?’”1 Samuel 19:18Now David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. He and Samuel went and lived in Naioth.1 Samuel 19:19It was told Saul, saying, “Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.”1 Samuel 19:20Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came on the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.1 Samuel 19:21When it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.1 Samuel 19:22Then went he also to Ramah, and came to the great well that is in Secu: and he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” One said, “Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.”1 Samuel 19:23He went there to Naioth in Ramah. Then the Spirit of God came on him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.1 Samuel 19:24He also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”1 Samuel 21:1Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said to him, “Why are you alone, and no man with you?”1 Samuel 21:2David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commanded me a business, and has said to me, ‘Let no man know anything of the business about which I send you, and what I have commanded you; and I have appointed the young men to such and such a place.’1 Samuel 21:3Now therefore what is under your hand? Give me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatever there is present.”1 Samuel 21:4The priest answered David, and said, “There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.”1 Samuel 21:5David answered the priest, and said to him, “Truly, women have been kept from us about these three days. When I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was but a common journey. How much more then today shall their vessels be holy?”1 Samuel 21:6So the priest gave him holy bread; for there was no bread there but the show bread, that was taken from before Yahweh, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.1 Samuel 21:10David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.1 Samuel 21:11The servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David the king of the land? Didn’t they sing one to another about him in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?’”1 Samuel 21:12David laid up these words in his heart, and was very afraid of Achish the king of Gath.1 Samuel 21:13He changed his behavior before them, and pretended to be mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down on his beard.1 Samuel 21:14Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me?1 Samuel 21:15Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?”1 Samuel 23:1David was told, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors.”1 Samuel 23:2Therefore David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” Yahweh said to David, “Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah.”1 Samuel 23:3David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”1 Samuel 23:4Then David inquired of Yahweh yet again. Yahweh answered him, and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”1 Samuel 23:5David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.1 Samuel 23:6It happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.1 Samuel 23:7It was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. Saul said, “God has delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that has gates and bars.”1 Samuel 23:8Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.1 Samuel 23:9David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”1 Samuel 23:10Then David said, “O Yahweh, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.1 Samuel 23:11Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Yahweh, the God of Israel, I beg you, tell your servant.” Yahweh said, “He will come down.”1 Samuel 23:12Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” Yahweh said, “They will deliver you up.”1 Samuel 23:13Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went wherever they could go. It was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he gave up going there.1 Samuel 23:14David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand.1 Samuel 23:15David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the wood.1 Samuel 23:16Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose, and went to David into the woods, and strengthened his hand in God.1 Samuel 23:17He said to him, “Don’t be afraid; for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you; and you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you; and that also Saul my father knows.”1 Samuel 23:18They both made a covenant before Yahweh: and David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan went to his house.1 Samuel 23:19Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself with us in the strongholds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the desert?1 Samuel 23:20Now therefore, O king, come down, according to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him up into the king’s hand.”1 Samuel 23:21Saul said, “You are blessed by Yahweh; for you have had compassion on me.1 Samuel 23:22Please go make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for it is told me that he deals very subtly.1 Samuel 23:23See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself, and come again to me with certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”1 Samuel 23:24They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert.1 Samuel 23:25Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.1 Samuel 23:26Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.1 Samuel 23:27But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come; for the Philistines have made a raid on the land!”1 Samuel 23:28So Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela Hammahlekoth.1 Samuel 23:29David went up from there, and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.1 Samuel 24:7So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Therefore he shall be my servant forever.”1 Samuel 28:1It happened in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, “Know assuredly that you shall go out with me in the army, you and your men.”
