Esther 1:13Then the king consulted the wise men who knew the times, for it was customary for him to confer with the experts in law and justice.Esther 1:14His closest advisors were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media who had personal access to the king and ranked highest in the kingdom.Esther 1:15“According to law,” he asked, “what should be done with Queen Vashti, since she refused to obey the command of King Xerxes delivered by the eunuchs?”Esther 1:16And in the presence of the king and his princes, Memucan replied, “Queen Vashti has wronged not only the king, but all the princes and the peoples in all the provinces of King Xerxes.Esther 1:17For the conduct of the queen will become known to all women, causing them to despise their husbands and say, ‘King Xerxes ordered Queen Vashti to be brought before him, but she did not come.’Esther 1:18This very day the noble women of Persia and Media who have heard about the queen’s conduct will say the same thing to all the king’s officials, resulting in much contempt and wrath.Esther 1:19So if it pleases the king, let him issue a royal decree, and let it be recorded in the laws of Persia and Media so that it cannot be repealed, that Vashti shall never again enter the presence of King Xerxes, and that her royal position shall be given to a woman better than she.Esther 1:20The edict the king issues will be heard throughout his vast kingdom—and so all women, from the least to the greatest, will honor their husbands.”Esther 1:21The king and his princes were pleased with this counsel; so the king did as Memucan advised.Esther 1:22He sent letters to all the provinces of the kingdom, to each province in its own script and to each people in their own language, proclaiming that every man should be master of his own household.Job 1:5And when the days of feasting were over, Job would send for his children to purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for all of them. Now then, we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has instructed you to tell us.”Acts 10:44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard his message.Acts 10:47“Can anyone withhold the water to baptize these people? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have!”Acts 10:48So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.Acts 16:15And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.Acts 16:25About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.Acts 16:26Suddenly a strong earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. At once all the doors flew open and everyone’s chains came loose.Acts 16:27When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, presuming that the prisoners had escaped.Acts 16:28But Paul called out in a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself! We are all here!”Acts 16:29Calling for lights, the jailer rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.Acts 16:30Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”Acts 16:31They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”Acts 16:32Then Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to him and to everyone in his house.Acts 16:33At that hour of the night, the jailer took them and washed their wounds. And without delay, he and all his household were baptized.Acts 16:34Then he brought them into his home and set a meal before them. So he and all his household rejoiced that they had come to believe in God.
