Do not make us cross the Jordan.”Numbers 32:16Then the Gadites and Reubenites approached Moses and said, “We want to build sheepfolds here for our livestock and cities for our little ones.Numbers 32:17But we will arm ourselves and be ready to go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them into their place. Meanwhile, our little ones will remain in the fortified cities for protection from the inhabitants of the land.Numbers 32:18We will not return to our homes until every Israelite has taken possession of his inheritance.Numbers 32:19Yet we will not have an inheritance with them across the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan.”Numbers 32:20Moses replied, “If you will do this—if you will arm yourselves before the LORD for battle,Numbers 32:21and if every one of your armed men crosses the Jordan before the LORD, until He has driven His enemies out before Him,Numbers 32:22then when the land is subdued before the LORD, you may return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel. And this land will belong to you as a possession before the LORD.Numbers 32:23But if you do not do this, you will certainly sin against the LORD—and be assured that your sin will find you out.Numbers 32:24Build cities for your little ones and folds for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”Numbers 32:25The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, “Your servants will do just as our lord commands.Numbers 32:26Our children, our wives, our livestock, and all our animals will remain here in the cities of Gilead.Numbers 32:27But your servants are equipped for war, and every man will cross over to the battle before the LORD, just as our lord says.”Numbers 32:28So Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua son of Nun, and to the family leaders of the tribes of Israel.Numbers 32:29And Moses said to them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites cross the Jordan with you, with every man armed for battle before the LORD, and the land is subdued before you, then you are to give them the land of Gilead as a possession.Numbers 32:30But if they do not arm themselves and go across with you, then they must accept their possession among you in the land of Canaan.”Numbers 32:31The Gadites and Reubenites replied, “As the LORD has spoken to your servants, so we will do.Numbers 32:32We will cross over into the land of Canaan armed before the LORD, that we may have our inheritance on this side of the Jordan.”Deuteronomy 3:12So at that time we took possession of this land. To the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the land beyond Aroer along the Arnon Valley, and half the hill country of Gilead, along with its cities.Deuteronomy 3:16and to the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the territory from Gilead to the Arnon Valley (the middle of the valley was the border) and up to the Jabbok River, the border of the Ammonites.Deuteronomy 3:17The Jordan River in the Arabah bordered it from Chinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) with the slopes of Pisgah to the east.Deuteronomy 29:8We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.Deuteronomy 33:20Concerning Gad he said: “Blessed is he who enlarges the domain of Gad! He lies down like a lion and tears off an arm or a head.Joshua 4:12The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over before the Israelites, armed for battle as Moses had instructed them.Joshua 4:13About 40,000 troops armed for battle crossed over before the LORD into the plains of Jericho.Joshua 13:24This is what Moses had given to the clans of the tribe of Gad:Joshua 13:25The territory of Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites as far as Aroer, near Rabbah;Joshua 13:26the territory from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;Joshua 13:27and in the valley, Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, with the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon (the territory on the east side of the Jordan up to the edge of the Sea of Chinnereth).Joshua 13:28This was the inheritance of the clans of the Gadites, including the cities and villages.Joshua 22:1Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of ManassehJoshua 22:2and told them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and you have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.Joshua 22:3All this time you have not deserted your brothers, up to this very day, but have kept the charge given you by the LORD your God.Joshua 22:4And now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as He promised them, you may return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan.Joshua 22:5But be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”Joshua 22:6So Joshua blessed them and sent them on their way, and they went to their homes.Joshua 22:7(To the half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given land in Bashan, and to the other half Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan among their brothers.) When Joshua sent them to their homes he blessed them,Joshua 22:8saying, “Return to your homes with your great wealth, with immense herds of livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and very many clothes. Divide with your brothers the spoil of your enemies.”Joshua 22:10And when they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.Joshua 22:11Then the Israelites received the report: “Behold, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar on the border of the land of Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side.”Joshua 22:12And when they heard this, the whole congregation of Israel assembled at Shiloh to go to war against them.
