Isaiah 14:28In the year that King Ahaz died, this burden was received:Isaiah 14:29Do not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken. For a viper will spring from the root of the snake, and a flying serpent from its egg.Isaiah 14:30Then the firstborn of the poor will find pasture, and the needy will lie down in safety, but I will kill your root by famine, and your remnant will be slain.Isaiah 14:31Wail, O gate! Go up, O Elam! Lay siege, O Media! I will put an end to all her groaning.”Isaiah 21:3Therefore my body is filled with anguish. Pain grips me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am bewildered to hear, I am dismayed to see.Isaiah 21:4My heart falters; fear makes me tremble. The twilight I desired has turned to horror.Isaiah 21:5They prepare a table, they lay out a carpet, they eat, they drink! Rise up, O princes, oil the shields!Isaiah 21:6For this is what the Lord says to me: “Go, post a lookout and have him report what he sees.Isaiah 21:7When he sees chariots with teams of horsemen, riders on donkeys, riders on camels, he must be alert, fully alert.”Isaiah 21:8Then the lookout shouted: “Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; night after night I stay at my post.Isaiah 21:9Look, here come the riders, horsemen in pairs.” And one answered, saying: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! All the images of her gods lie shattered on the ground!”Isaiah 21:10O my people, crushed on the threshing floor, I tell you what I have heard from the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel.Isaiah 21:11This is the burden against Dumah: One calls to me from Seir, “Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?”Isaiah 21:12The watchman replies, “Morning has come, but also the night. If you would inquire, then inquire. Come back yet again.”Isaiah 21:13This is the burden against Arabia: In the thickets of Arabia you must lodge, O caravans of Dedanites.Isaiah 21:14Bring water for the thirsty, O dwellers of Tema; meet the refugees with food.Isaiah 21:15For they flee from the sword—the sword that is drawn—from the bow that is bent, and from the stress of battle.Isaiah 21:16For this is what the Lord says to me: “Within one year, as a hired worker would count it, all the glory of Kedar will be gone.Isaiah 21:17The remaining archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be few.” For the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.Isaiah 22:1This is the burden against the Valley of Vision: What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the rooftops,Isaiah 22:2O city of commotion, O town of revelry? Your slain did not die by the sword, nor were they killed in battle.Isaiah 22:3All your rulers have fled together, captured without a bow. All your fugitives were captured together, having fled to a distant place.Isaiah 22:4Therefore I said, “Turn away from me, let me weep bitterly! Do not try to console me over the destruction of the daughter of my people.”Isaiah 22:5For the Lord GOD of Hosts has set a day of tumult and trampling and confusion in the Valley of Vision—of breaking down the walls and crying to the mountains.Isaiah 22:6Elam takes up a quiver, with chariots and horsemen, and Kir uncovers the shield.Isaiah 22:7Your choicest valleys are full of chariots, and horsemen are posted at the gates.Isaiah 22:8He has uncovered the defenses of Judah. On that day you looked to the weapons in the House of the Forest.Isaiah 22:9You saw that there were many breaches in the walls of the City of David. You collected water from the lower pool.Isaiah 22:10You counted the houses of Jerusalem and tore them down to strengthen the wall.Isaiah 22:11You built a reservoir between the walls for the waters of the ancient pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or consider Him who planned it long ago.Isaiah 22:12On that day the Lord GOD of Hosts called for weeping and wailing, for shaven heads and the wearing of sackcloth.Isaiah 22:13But look, there is joy and gladness, butchering of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”Isaiah 22:14The LORD of Hosts has revealed in my hearing: “Until your dying day, this sin of yours will never be atoned for,” says the Lord GOD of Hosts.Isaiah 22:15This is what the Lord GOD of Hosts says: “Go, say to Shebna, the steward in charge of the palace:Isaiah 22:16What are you doing here, and who authorized you to carve out a tomb for yourself here—to chisel your tomb in the height and cut your resting place in the rock?Isaiah 22:17Look, O mighty man! The LORD is about to shake you violently. He will take hold of you,Isaiah 22:18roll you into a ball, and sling you into a wide land. There you will die, and there your glorious chariots will remain—a disgrace to the house of your master.Isaiah 22:19I will remove you from office, and you will be ousted from your position.Isaiah 22:20On that day I will summon My servant, Eliakim son of Hilkiah.Isaiah 22:21I will clothe him with your robe and tie your sash around him. I will put your authority in his hand, and he will be a father to the dwellers of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.Isaiah 22:22I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.Isaiah 28:1Woe to the majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards, to the fading flower of his glorious splendor, set on the summit above the fertile valley, the pride of those overcome by wine.Isaiah 28:2Behold, the Lord has one who is strong and mighty. Like a hailstorm or destructive tempest, like a driving rain or flooding downpour, he will smash that crown to the ground.Isaiah 28:3The majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards will be trampled underfoot.Isaiah 28:4The fading flower of his beautiful splendor, set on the summit above the fertile valley, will be like a ripe fig before the summer harvest: Whoever sees it will take it in his hand and swallow it.Isaiah 28:5On that day the LORD of Hosts will be a crown of glory, a diadem of splendor to the remnant of His people,Isaiah 28:6a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and a strength to those who repel the onslaught at the gate.Isaiah 28:7These also stagger from wine and stumble from strong drink: Priests and prophets reel from strong drink and are befuddled by wine. They stumble because of strong drink, muddled in their visions and stumbling in their judgments.Isaiah 28:8For all their tables are covered with vomit; there is not a place without filth.Isaiah 28:9Whom is He trying to teach? To whom is He explaining His message? To infants just weaned from milk? To babies removed from the breast?Isaiah 28:10For they hear: “Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line; a little here, a little there.”Isaiah 28:11Indeed, with mocking lips and foreign tongues, He will speak to this peopleIsaiah 28:12to whom He has said: “This is the place of rest, let the weary rest; this is the place of repose.” But they would not listen.Isaiah 28:13Then the word of the LORD to them will become: “Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line; a little here, a little there,” so that they will go stumbling backward and will be injured, ensnared, and captured.
