He grabbed him and began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me!’Matthew 18:29So his fellow servant fell down and begged him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you back.’Matthew 18:30But he refused. Instead, he went and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay his debt.Matthew 18:31When his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and recounted all of this to their master.Matthew 18:32Then the master summoned him and said, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave all your debt because you begged me.Matthew 18:33Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?’Matthew 18:34In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should repay all that he owed.Matthew 18:35That is how My heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”Matthew 19:1When Jesus had finished saying these things, He left Galilee and went into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.Matthew 19:2Large crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.Matthew 19:3Then some Pharisees came and tested Him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?”Matthew 19:4Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’Matthew 19:5and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?Matthew 19:6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”Matthew 19:7“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses order a man to give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”Matthew 19:8Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hardness of heart. But it was not this way from the beginning.Matthew 19:9Now I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”Matthew 19:10His disciples said to Him, “If this is the case between a man and his wife, it is better not to marry.”Matthew 19:11“Not everyone can accept this word,” He replied, “but only those to whom it has been given.Matthew 19:12For there are eunuchs who were born that way; others were made that way by men; and still others live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”Matthew 19:13Then little children were brought to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them and pray for them. And the disciples rebuked those who brought them.Matthew 19:14But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”Matthew 19:15And after He had placed His hands on them, He went on from there.Matthew 19:16Just then a man came up to Jesus and inquired, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to obtain eternal life?”Matthew 19:17“Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”Matthew 19:18“Which ones?” the man asked. Jesus answered, “‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness,Matthew 19:19honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself.’”Matthew 19:20“All these I have kept,” said the young man. “What do I still lack?”Matthew 19:21Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”Matthew 19:22When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.Matthew 19:28Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, in the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.Matthew 20:1“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.Matthew 20:2He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.Matthew 20:3About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing.Matthew 20:4‘You also go into my vineyard,’ he said, ‘and I will pay you whatever is right.’Matthew 20:5So they went. He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing.Matthew 20:6About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’ he asked.Matthew 20:7‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered. So he told them, ‘You also go into my vineyard.’Matthew 20:8When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, starting with the last ones hired and moving on to the first.’Matthew 20:9The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius.Matthew 20:10So when the original workers came, they assumed they would receive more. But each of them also received a denarius.Matthew 20:11On receiving their pay, they began to grumble against the landowner.Matthew 20:12‘These men who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the scorching heat of the day.’
