1 Samuel 16:10Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel told him, “The LORD has not chosen any of these.”1 Samuel 16:11And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”1 Samuel 16:12So Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him, for he is the one.”1 Samuel 16:13So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.1 Samuel 19:20he sent messengers to seize him. But when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel leading them, the Spirit of God came upon them, and Saul’s messengers also began to prophesy.2 Samuel 12:1Then the LORD sent Nathan to David, and when he arrived, he said, “There were two men in a certain city, one rich and the other poor.2 Samuel 12:2The rich man had a great number of sheep and cattle,2 Samuel 12:3but the poor man had nothing except one small ewe lamb that he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food and drank from his cup; it slept in his arms and was like a daughter to him.2 Samuel 12:4Now a traveler came to the rich man, who refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for his guest.”2 Samuel 12:5David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan: “As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!2 Samuel 12:6Because he has done this thing and has shown no pity, he must pay for the lamb four times over.”2 Samuel 12:7Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.2 Samuel 12:8I gave your master’s house to you and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah, and if that was not enough, I would have given you even more.2 Samuel 12:9Why then have you despised the command of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? You put Uriah the Hittite to the sword and took his wife as your own. You have slain him with the sword of the Ammonites.2 Samuel 12:10Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’2 Samuel 12:11This is what the LORD says: ‘I will raise up adversity against you from your own house. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to another, and he will lie with them in broad daylight.2 Samuel 12:12You have acted in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’”2 Samuel 12:13Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” “The LORD has taken away your sin,” Nathan replied. “You will not die.2 Samuel 12:14Nevertheless, because by this deed you have shown utter contempt for the word of the LORD, the son born to you will surely die.”2 Samuel 15:24Zadok was also there, and all the Levites with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar offered sacrifices until all the people had passed out of the city.2 Samuel 15:25Then the king said to Zadok, “Return the ark of God to the city. And his sons showed him the way taken by the man of God, who had come from Judah.1 Kings 13:13So the prophet said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” Then they saddled the donkey for him, and he mounted it1 Kings 13:14and went after the man of God. He found him sitting under an oak tree and asked, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” “I am,” he replied.1 Kings 13:15So the prophet said to the man of God, “Come home with me and eat some bread.”1 Kings 13:16But the man replied, “I cannot go home with you, and I will not eat bread or drink water with you in this place.1 Kings 13:17For I have been told by the word of the LORD: ‘You must not eat bread or drink water there or return by the way you came.’”1 Kings 13:18Then the prophet replied, “I too am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread and drink water.’” The old prophet was lying to him,1 Kings 13:19but the man of God went back with him, ate bread in his house, and drank water.1 Kings 13:20While they were sitting at the table, the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back,1 Kings 13:21and the prophet cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Because you have defied the word of the LORD and have not kept the commandment that the LORD your God gave you,1 Kings 13:22but you went back and ate bread and drank water in the place where He told you not to do so, your body shall never reach the tomb of your fathers.’”1 Kings 13:23And after the man of God had finished eating and drinking, the old prophet who had brought him back saddled the donkey for him.1 Kings 13:24As he went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body was left lying in the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside it.1 Kings 13:25And there were men passing by who saw the body lying in the road with the lion standing beside it, and they went and reported this in the city where the old prophet lived.1 Kings 13:26When the prophet who had brought him back from his journey heard this, he said, “It is the man of God who disobeyed the command of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, and it has mauled him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to him.”1 Kings 13:27Then the old prophet instructed his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled it,1 Kings 13:28and he went and found the body lying in the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had not eaten the body or mauled the donkey.1 Kings 13:29So the old prophet lifted up the body of the man of God, laid it on the donkey, and brought it back to his own city to mourn for him and bury him.1 Kings 13:30Then he laid the body in his own tomb, and they lamented over him, “Oh, my brother!”1 Kings 13:31After he had buried him, the prophet said to his sons, “When I die, you must bury me in the tomb where the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones,1 Kings 13:32for the message that he cried out by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel and against all the shrines on the high places in the cities of Samaria will surely come to pass.”1 Kings 17:1Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was among the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there will be neither dew nor rain in these years except at my word!”1 Kings 17:2Then a revelation from the LORD came to Elijah:1 Kings 17:3“Leave here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.1 Kings 17:4And you are to drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”1 Kings 17:5So Elijah did what the LORD had told him, and he went and lived by the Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.1 Kings 17:6The ravens would bring him bread and meat in the morning and evening, and he would drink from the brook.1 Kings 17:7Some time later, however, the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.1 Kings 17:8Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah:1 Kings 17:9“Get up and go to Zarephath of Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”1 Kings 17:10So Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks. Elijah called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, so that I may drink.”1 Kings 17:11And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread.”1 Kings 17:12But she replied, “As surely as the LORD your God lives, I have no bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks to take home and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so that we may eat it and die.”
