Esther 9:3And all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and the king’s administrators helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen upon them.Esther 9:4For Mordecai exercised great power in the palace, and his fame spread throughout the provinces as he became more and more powerful.Esther 9:5The Jews put all their enemies to the sword, killing and destroying them, and they did as they pleased to those who hated them.Esther 9:6In the citadel of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men,Esther 9:7including Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,Esther 9:8Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,Esther 9:9Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha.Esther 9:10They killed these ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, but they did not lay a hand on the plunder.Esther 9:11On that day the number of those killed in the citadel of Susa was reported to the king,Esther 9:12who said to Queen Esther, “In the citadel of Susa the Jews have killed and destroyed five hundred men, including Haman’s ten sons. What have they done in the rest of the royal provinces? Now what is your petition? It will be given to you. And what further do you request? It will be fulfilled.”Esther 9:13Esther replied, “If it pleases the king, may the Jews in Susa also have tomorrow to carry out today’s edict, and may the bodies of Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.”Esther 9:14So the king commanded that this be done. An edict was issued in Susa, and they hanged the ten sons of Haman.Esther 9:15On the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, the Jews in Susa came together again and put to death three hundred men there, but they did not lay a hand on the plunder.Esther 9:16The rest of the Jews in the royal provinces also assembled to defend themselves and rid themselves of their enemies. They killed 75,000 who hated them, but they did not lay a hand on the plunder.Esther 9:17This was done on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar, and on the fourteenth day they rested, making it a day of feasting and joy.Esther 9:18The Jews in Susa, however, had assembled on the thirteenth and the fourteenth days of the month. So they rested on the fifteenth day, making it a day of feasting and joy.Esther 9:19This is why the rural Jews, who live in the villages, observe the fourteenth day of the month of Adar as a day of joy and feasting. It is a holiday for sending gifts to one another.Esther 9:20Mordecai recorded these events and sent letters to all the Jews in all the provinces of King Xerxes, both near and far,Esther 9:21to establish among them an annual celebration on the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of AdarEsther 9:22as the days on which the Jews gained rest from their enemies and the month in which their sorrow turned to joy and their mourning into a holiday. He wrote that these were to be days of feasting and joy, of sending gifts to one another and to the poor.Esther 9:23So the Jews agreed to continue the custom they had started, as Mordecai had written to them.Esther 9:24For Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them and had cast the Pur (that is, the lot) to crush and destroy them.Esther 9:25But when it came before the king, he commanded by letter that the wicked scheme which Haman had devised against the Jews should come back upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.Esther 9:26Therefore these days are called Purim, from the word Pur. They headed toward the Arabah,Jeremiah 52:12On the tenth day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign over Babylon, Nebuzaradan captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, entered Jerusalem.Jeremiah 52:13He burned down the house of the LORD, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem—every significant building.Jeremiah 52:14And the whole army of the Chaldeans under the captain of the guard broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.Jeremiah 52:15Then Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried into exile some of the poorest people and those who remained in the city, along with the deserters who had defected to the king of Babylon and the rest of the craftsmen.Jeremiah 52:16But Nebuzaradan captain of the guard left behind some of the poorest of the land to tend the vineyards and fields.Jeremiah 52:17Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.Jeremiah 52:18They also took away the pots, shovels, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, dishes, and all the articles of bronze used in the temple service.Jeremiah 52:19The captain of the guard also took away the basins, censers, sprinkling bowls, pots, lampstands, pans, and drink offering bowls—anything made of pure gold or fine silver.Jeremiah 52:20As for the two pillars, the Sea, the twelve bronze bulls under it, and the movable stands that King Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.Jeremiah 52:21Each pillar was eighteen cubits tall and twelve cubits in circumference; each was hollow, four fingers thick.Jeremiah 52:22The bronze capital atop one pillar was five cubits high, with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second pillar, with its pomegranates, was similar.Jeremiah 52:23Each capital had ninety-six pomegranates on the sides, and a total of a hundred pomegranates were above the surrounding network.Jeremiah 52:24The captain of the guard also took away Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest of second rank, and the three doorkeepers.Jeremiah 52:25Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as seven trusted royal advisers. He also took the scribe of the captain of the army, who had enlisted the people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.Jeremiah 52:26Nebuzaradan captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.Jeremiah 52:27There at Riblah in the land of Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.Jeremiah 52:28These are the people Nebuchadnezzar carried away: in the seventh year, 3,023 Jews;Jeremiah 52:29in Nebuchadnezzar’s eighteenth year, 832 people from Jerusalem;Jeremiah 52:30in Nebuchadnezzar’s twenty-third year, Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried away 745 Jews. So in all, 4,600 people were taken away.Haggai 1:14So the LORD stirred the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, as well as the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and began the work on the house of the LORD of Hosts, their God,Haggai 1:15on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of King Darius.Zechariah 1:7On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo.Zechariah 7:1In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.Revelation 11:2But exclude the courtyard outside the temple.
