Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against the children of Israel.Joshua 7:11Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. They have even put it among their own stuff.Joshua 7:12Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. Sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, “There is a devoted thing in the midst of you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”Joshua 7:14“‘In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which Yahweh selects shall come near by families. The family which Yahweh selects shall come near by households. The household which Yahweh selects shall come near man by man.Joshua 7:15It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of Yahweh, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”Joshua 7:16So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.Joshua 7:17He brought near the family of Judah; and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.Joshua 7:18He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.Joshua 7:19Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”Joshua 7:20Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.Joshua 7:21When I saw among the spoil a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”Joshua 7:22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.Joshua 7:23They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before Yahweh.Joshua 7:24Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.Joshua 7:25Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you this day.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.Joshua 7:26They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Let me not fall into the hand of man.”2 Samuel 24:15So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the appointed time; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.2 Samuel 24:16When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough. Now stay your hand.” The angel of Yahweh was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.2 Samuel 24:17David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.”1 Kings 2:33So shall their blood return on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed forever. Let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies are very great. Let me not fall into the hand of man.”1 Chronicles 21:14So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel; and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.1 Chronicles 21:15God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, Yahweh saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” The angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.1 Chronicles 21:16David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.1 Chronicles 21:17David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be numbered? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done?
