Genesis 4:13Cain said to Yahweh, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.Genesis 4:14Behold, you have driven me out this day from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there.”Genesis 18:29He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”Genesis 18:30He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”Genesis 18:31He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”Genesis 18:32He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up.Genesis 24:17The servant ran to meet her, and said, “Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher.”Genesis 24:18She said, “Drink, my lord.” She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him drink.Genesis 24:19When she had done giving him drink, she said, “I will also draw for your camels, until they have done drinking.”Genesis 24:20She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.Genesis 24:21The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Yahweh had made his journey prosperous or not.Genesis 24:22It happened, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,Genesis 24:23and said, “Whose daughter are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your father’s house for us to lodge in?”Genesis 24:24She said to him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor.”Genesis 24:25She said moreover to him, “We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.”Genesis 24:26The man bowed his head, and worshiped Yahweh.Genesis 24:27He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, Yahweh has led me in the way to the house of my master’s relatives.”Genesis 24:28The young lady ran, and told her mother’s house about these words.Genesis 24:29Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban. Laban ran out to the man, to the spring.Genesis 24:30It happened, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, “This is what the man said to me,” that he came to the man. Behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring.Genesis 24:31He said, “Come in, you blessed of Yahweh. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.”Genesis 24:32The man came into the house, and he unloaded the camels. He gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.Genesis 24:33Food was set before him to eat, but he said, “I will not eat until I have told my message.” He said, “Speak on.”Genesis 24:34He said, “I am Abraham’s servant.Genesis 24:35Yahweh has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys.Genesis 24:36Sarah, my master’s wife, bore a son to my master when she was old. He has given all that he has to him.Genesis 24:37My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,Genesis 24:38but you shall go to my father’s house, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.’Genesis 24:39I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not follow me?’Genesis 24:40He said to me, ‘Yahweh, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son of my relatives, and of my father’s house.Genesis 24:41Then will you be clear from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they don’t give her to you, you shall be clear from my oath.’Genesis 24:42I came this day to the spring, and said, ‘Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, if now you do prosper my way which I go—Genesis 24:43behold, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the maiden who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, “Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,”Genesis 24:44and she will tell me, “Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,”—let her be the woman whom Yahweh has appointed for my master’s son.’Genesis 24:45Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew. I said to her, ‘Please let me drink.’
