Luke 23:1Then the whole council rose and led Jesus away to Pilate.Luke 23:2And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding payment of taxes to Caesar, and proclaiming Himself to be Christ, a King.”Luke 23:13Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,Luke 23:14and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined Him here in your presence and found Him not guilty of your charges against Him.Luke 23:15Neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us. As you can see, He has done nothing deserving of death.Luke 23:16Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”Luke 23:17Luke 23:18But they all cried out in unison: “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”Luke 23:19(Barabbas had been imprisoned for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)Luke 23:20Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed them again,Luke 23:21but they kept shouting, “Crucify Him! This man is performing many signs.John 18:15Now Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he also went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.John 18:16But Peter stood outside at the door. Then the disciple who was known to the high priest went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.John 18:17At this, the servant girl watching the door said to Peter, “Aren’t you also one of this man’s disciples?” “I am not,” he answered.John 18:18Because it was cold, the servants and officers were standing around a charcoal fire they had made to keep warm. And Peter was also standing with them, warming himself.John 18:19Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and His teaching.John 18:20“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered. “I always taught in the synagogues and at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.John 18:21Why are you asking Me? Ask those who heard My message. Surely they know what I said.”John 18:22When Jesus had said this, one of the officers standing nearby slapped Him in the face and said, “Is this how You answer the high priest?”John 18:23Jesus replied, “If I said something wrong, testify as to what was wrong. But if I spoke correctly, why did you strike Me?”John 18:24Then Annas sent Him, still bound, to Caiaphas the high priest.John 18:25Simon Peter was still standing and warming himself. So they asked him, “Aren’t you also one of His disciples?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”John 18:26One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Didn’t I see you with Him in the garden?”John 18:27Peter denied it once more, and immediately a rooster crowed.John 18:28Then they led Jesus away from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. By now it was early morning, and the Jews did not enter the Praetorium, to avoid being defiled and unable to eat the Passover.John 18:29So Pilate went out to them and asked, “What accusation are you bringing against this man?”John 18:30“If He were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed Him over to you.”John 18:31“You take Him and judge Him by your own law,” Pilate told them. “We are not permitted to execute anyone,” the Jews replied.John 18:32This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to indicate the kind of death He was going to die.John 19:15At this, they shouted, “Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him!” “Shall I crucify your King?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar,” replied the chief priests.John 19:16Then Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified, and the soldiers took Him away.John 19:18There they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on each side, with Jesus in the middle.Acts 4:6along with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and many others from the high priest’s family.Acts 4:7They had Peter and John brought in and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?”Acts 4:8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of the people!Acts 4:9If we are being examined today about a kind service to a man who was lame, to determine how he was healed,Acts 4:10then let this be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.Acts 4:11This Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’Acts 4:12Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”Acts 4:13When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they marveled and took note that these men had been with Jesus.Acts 4:14And seeing the man who had been healed standing there with them, they had nothing to say in response.Acts 4:15So they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin and then conferred together.Acts 4:16“What shall we do with these men?” they asked. “It is clear to everyone living in Jerusalem that a remarkable miracle has occurred through them, and we cannot deny it.Acts 4:17But to keep this message from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them not to speak to anyone in this name.”Acts 4:18Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.Acts 4:19But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than God.Acts 4:20For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”Acts 4:21After further threats they let them go. They could not find a way to punish them, because all the people were glorifying God for what had happened.Acts 5:17Then the high priest and all his associates, who belonged to the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They went outActs 5:18and arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.Acts 5:19But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out, saying,Acts 5:20“Go, stand in the temple courts and tell the people the full message of this new life.”Acts 5:21At daybreak the apostles entered the temple courts as they had been told and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles.Acts 5:22But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they returned with the report:Acts 5:23“We found the jail securely locked, with the guards posted at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”
