Genesis 32:3Jacob sent messengers in front of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.Genesis 32:4He commanded them, saying, “This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.Genesis 32:5I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.’”Genesis 32:6The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau. Not only that, but he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him.”Genesis 32:7Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed. He divided the people who were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies;Genesis 32:8and he said, “If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape.”Genesis 32:9Jacob said, “God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Yahweh, who said to me, ‘Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will do you good,’Genesis 32:10I am not worthy of the least of all the loving kindnesses, and of all the truth, which you have shown to your servant; for with just my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I have become two companies.Genesis 32:11Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he come and strike me, and the mothers with the children.Genesis 32:12You said, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which can’t be numbered because there are so many.’”Genesis 32:13He lodged there that night, and took from that which he had with him, a present for Esau, his brother:Genesis 32:14two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,Genesis 32:15thirty milk camels and their colts, forty cows, ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten foals.Genesis 32:16He delivered them into the hands of his servants, every herd by itself, and said to his servants, “Pass over before me, and put a space between herd and herd.”Genesis 32:17He commanded the foremost, saying, “When Esau, my brother, meets you, and asks you, saying, ‘Whose are you? Behold, he also is behind us.’”Genesis 32:19He commanded also the second, and the third, and all that followed the herds, saying, “This is how you shall speak to Esau, when you find him.Genesis 32:20You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”Genesis 32:21So the present passed over before him, and he himself lodged that night in the camp.Genesis 34:5Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter; and his sons were with his livestock in the field. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt.Genesis 41:44Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.”Genesis 41:45Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.Genesis 41:46Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.Genesis 41:47In the seven plenteous years the earth produced abundantly.Genesis 41:48He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was around every city, he laid up in the same.Genesis 41:49Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number.Genesis 41:50To Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.Genesis 41:51Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.”Genesis 41:52The name of the second, he called Ephraim: “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”Genesis 41:53The seven years of plenty, that were in the land of Egypt, came to an end.Genesis 41:54The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.Genesis 41:55When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.”Genesis 41:56The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt.Genesis 41:57All countries came into Egypt, to Joseph, to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all the earth.Exodus 18:17Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.Exodus 18:18You will surely wear away, both you, and this people that is with you; for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to perform it yourself alone.Exodus 18:19Listen now to my voice. I will give you counsel, and God be with you. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.Exodus 18:23If you will do this thing, and God commands you so, then you will be able to endure, and all of these people also will go to their place in peace.”Joshua 22:10When they came to the region about the Jordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, a great altar to look at.Joshua 22:11The children of Israel heard this, “Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that pertains to the children of Israel.”Joshua 22:12When the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.Joshua 22:13The children of Israel sent to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,Joshua 22:14and with him ten princes, one prince of a fathers’ house for each of the tribes of Israel; and they were everyone of them head of their fathers’ houses among the thousands of Israel.Joshua 22:15They came to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying,Joshua 22:16“Thus says the whole congregation of Yahweh, ‘What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following Yahweh, in that you have built yourselves an altar, to rebel this day against Yahweh?
