Joshua 22:17Was not the sin of Peor enough for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day? It even brought a plague upon the congregation of the LORD.Joshua 22:18And now, would you turn away from the LORD? If this was in rebellion or breach of faith against the LORD, do not spare us today.Joshua 22:23If we have built for ourselves an altar to turn away from Him and to offer burnt offerings and grain offerings on it, or to sacrifice peace offerings on it, may the LORD Himself hold us accountable.Joshua 22:24But in fact we have done this for fear that in the future your descendants might say to ours, ‘What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?Joshua 22:25For the LORD has made the Jordan a border between us and you Reubenites and Gadites. You have no share in the LORD!’ So your descendants could cause ours to stop fearing the LORD.Joshua 22:26That is why we said, ‘Let us take action and build an altar for ourselves, but not for burnt offerings or sacrifices.Joshua 22:27Rather, let it be a witness between us and you and the generations to come, that we will worship the LORD in His presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and peace offerings.’ Then in the future, your descendants cannot say to ours, ‘You have no share in the LORD!’Joshua 22:28Therefore we said, ‘If they ever say this to us or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the replica of the altar of the LORD that our fathers made, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’Joshua 22:29Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD and turn away from Him today by building an altar for burnt offerings, grain offerings, or sacrifices, other than the altar of the LORD our God, which stands before His tabernacle.”Joshua 22:30When Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the congregation—the heads of Israel’s clans who were with him—heard what the descendants of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh had to say, they were satisfied.Joshua 22:31Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest said to the descendants of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh, “Today we know that the LORD is among us, because you have not committed this breach of faith against Him. Consequently, you have delivered the Israelites from the hand of the LORD.”Joshua 22:32Then Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, together with the other leaders, returned to the Israelites in the land of Canaan and brought back a report regarding the Reubenites and Gadites in the land of Gilead.Joshua 22:33The Israelites were satisfied with the report, and they blessed God and spoke no more about going to war against them to destroy the land where the Reubenites and Gadites lived.Joshua 22:34So the Reubenites and Gadites named the altar Witness, for they said, “It is a witness between us that the LORD is God.”1 Samuel 11:13But Saul ordered, “No one shall be put to death this day, for today the LORD has worked salvation in Israel.”1 Samuel 18:5So David marched out and prospered in everything Saul sent him to do, and Saul set him over the men of war. Now Saul was holding a spear,1 Samuel 18:11and he hurled it, thinking, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David eluded him twice.1 Samuel 18:12So Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with David but had departed from Saul.1 Samuel 18:13Therefore Saul sent David away and gave him command of a thousand men. David led the troops out to battle and back,1 Samuel 18:14and he continued to prosper in all his ways, because the LORD was with him.1 Samuel 18:15When Saul saw that David was very successful, he was afraid of him.1 Samuel 18:16But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he was leading them out to battle and back.1 Samuel 18:17Then Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab. I will give her to you in marriage. Only be valiant for me and fight the LORD’s battles.” But Saul was thinking, “I need not raise my hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”1 Samuel 18:18And David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my family or my father’s clan in Israel, that I should become the son-in-law of the king?”1 Samuel 18:19So when it was time to give Saul’s daughter Merab to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.1 Samuel 18:20Now Saul’s daughter Michal loved David, and when this was reported to Saul, it pleased him.1 Samuel 18:21“I will give her to David,” Saul thought, “so that she may be a snare to him, and the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David, “For a second time now you can be my son-in-law.”1 Samuel 18:22Then Saul ordered his servants, “Speak to David privately and tell him, ‘Behold, the king is pleased with you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore, become his son-in-law.’”1 Samuel 18:23But when Saul’s servants relayed these words to David, he replied, “Does it seem trivial in your sight to be the son-in-law of the king? I am a poor man and lightly esteemed.”1 Samuel 18:24And the servants told Saul what David had said.1 Samuel 18:25Saul replied, “Say to David, ‘The king desires no other dowry but a hundred Philistine foreskins as revenge on his enemies.’” But Saul intended to cause David’s death at the hands of the Philistines.1 Samuel 18:26When the servants reported these terms to David, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. Before the wedding day arrived,1 Samuel 18:27David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented them as payment in full to become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave his daughter Michal to David in marriage.1 Samuel 18:28When Saul realized that the LORD was with David and that his daughter Michal loved David,1 Samuel 18:29he grew even more afraid of David. So from then on Saul was David’s enemy.1 Samuel 18:30Every time the Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.1 Samuel 25:18Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five butchered sheep, five seahs of roasted grain, a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs. She loaded them on donkeys1 Samuel 25:19and said to her young men, “Go ahead of me. I will be right behind you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal.1 Samuel 25:20As Abigail came riding her donkey into a mountain ravine, she saw David and his men coming down toward her, and she met them.1 Samuel 25:21Now David had just said, “In vain I have protected all that belonged to this man in the wilderness. Nothing that belongs to him has gone missing, yet he has paid me back evil for good.1 Samuel 25:22May God punish David, and ever so severely, if I let one male belonging to Nabal survive until morning.”1 Samuel 25:23When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off the donkey, fell facedown, and bowed before him.1 Samuel 25:24She fell at his feet and said, “My lord, may the blame be on me alone, but please let your servant speak to you; hear the words of your servant.1 Samuel 25:25My lord should pay no attention to this scoundrel Nabal, for he lives up to his name: His name means Fool, and folly accompanies him. I, your servant, did not see my lord’s young men whom you sent.1 Samuel 25:26Now, my lord, as surely as the LORD lives and you yourself live, since the LORD has held you back from bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hand, may your enemies and those who seek harm for my lord be like Nabal.1 Samuel 25:27Now let this gift your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow you.1 Samuel 25:28Please forgive your servant’s offense, for the LORD will surely make a lasting dynasty for my lord, because he fights the LORD’s battles. May no evil be found in you as long as you live.1 Samuel 25:29And should someone pursue you and seek your life, then the life of my lord will be bound securely by the LORD your God in the bundle of the living. But He shall fling away the lives of your enemies like stones from a sling.1 Samuel 25:30When the LORD has done for my lord all the good He promised, and when He has appointed you ruler over Israel,1 Samuel 25:31then my lord will have no remorse or guilt of conscience over needless bloodshed and revenge. And when the LORD has dealt well with my lord, may you remember your servant.”2 Samuel 15:33David said to him, “If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me.
