Exodus 15:3The LORD is a warrior, the LORD is His name.Exodus 15:4Pharaoh’s chariots and army He has cast into the sea; the finest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea.Exodus 15:5The depths have covered them; they sank there like a stone.Exodus 15:6Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power; Your right hand, O LORD, has shattered the enemy.Exodus 15:7You overthrew Your adversaries by Your great majesty. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.Ruth 1:1In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. And a certain man from Bethlehem in Judah, with his wife and two sons, went to reside in the land of Moab.Ruth 1:2The man’s name was Elimelech, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah, and they entered the land of Moab and settled there.Ruth 1:3Then Naomi’s husband Elimelech died, and she was left with her two sons,Ruth 1:4who took Moabite women as their wives, one named Orpah and the other named Ruth. And after they had lived in Moab about ten years,Ruth 1:5both Mahlon and Chilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and without her husband.Ruth 1:6When Naomi heard in Moab that the LORD had attended to His people by providing them with food, she and her daughters-in-law prepared to leave the land of Moab.Ruth 1:7Accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road leading back to the land of Judah.Ruth 1:8Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you to your mother’s home. May the LORD show you loving devotion, as you have shown to your dead and to me.Ruth 1:9May the LORD enable each of you to find rest in the home of your new husband.” And she kissed them as they wept aloudRuth 1:10and said, “Surely we will return with you to your people.”Ruth 1:11But Naomi replied, “Return home, my daughters. Why would you go with me? Are there still sons in my womb to become your husbands?Ruth 1:12Return home, my daughters. Go on, for I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was hope for me to have a husband tonight and to bear sons,Ruth 1:13would you wait for them to grow up? Would you refrain from having husbands? No, my daughters, it is much more bitter for me than for you, because the hand of the LORD has gone out against me.”Ruth 1:14Again they wept aloud, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her.Ruth 1:15“Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and her gods; follow her back home.”Ruth 1:16But Ruth replied: “Do not urge me to leave you or to turn from following you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.Ruth 1:17Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD punish me, and ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.”Ruth 1:18When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped trying to persuade her.Ruth 1:19So Naomi and Ruth traveled until they came to Bethlehem. When they entered Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them, and the women of the town exclaimed, “Can this be Naomi?”Ruth 1:20“Do not call me Naomi,” she replied. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has dealt quite bitterly with me.Ruth 1:21I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? After all, the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me.”Ruth 1:22So Naomi returned from the land of Moab with her daughter-in-law Ruth the Moabitess. And they arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.2 Samuel 18:19Then Ahimaaz son of Zadok said, “Please let me run and tell the king the good news that the LORD has avenged him of his enemies.”2 Samuel 18:20But Joab replied, “You are not the man to take good news today. You may do it another day, but you must not do so today, because the king’s son is dead.”2 Samuel 18:21So Joab said to a Cushite, “Go, tell the king what you have seen.” The Cushite bowed to Joab and took off running.2 Samuel 18:22Ahimaaz son of Zadok, however, persisted and said to Joab, “No matter what, please let me also run behind the Cushite!” “My son,” Joab replied, “why do you want to run, since you will not receive a reward?”2 Samuel 18:23“No matter what, I want to run!” he replied. “Then run!” Joab told him. So Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the Cushite.2 Samuel 18:24Now David was sitting between the two gates when the watchman went up to the roof of the gateway by the wall, looked out, and saw a man running alone.2 Samuel 18:25So he called out and told the king. “If he is alone,” the king replied, “he bears good news.” As the first runner drew near,2 Samuel 18:26the watchman saw another man running, and he called out to the gatekeeper, “Look! Another man is running alone!” “This one also brings good news,” said the king.2 Samuel 18:27The watchman said, “The first man appears to me to be running like Ahimaaz son of Zadok.” “This is a good man,” said the king. “He comes with good news.”2 Samuel 18:28Then Ahimaaz called out to the king, “All is well!” And he bowed facedown before the king. He continued, “Blessed be the LORD your God! He has delivered up the men who raised their hands against my lord the king.”2 Samuel 18:29The king asked, “Is the young man Absalom all right?” And Ahimaaz replied, “When Joab sent the king’s servant and your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I do not know what it was.”2 Samuel 18:30“Move aside,” said the king, “and stand here.” So he stepped aside.2 Samuel 18:31Just then the Cushite came and said, “May my lord the king hear the good news: Today the LORD has avenged you of all who rose up against you!”2 Samuel 18:32The king asked the Cushite, “Is the young man Absalom all right?” And the Cushite replied, “May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up against you to harm you be like that young man.”2 Samuel 18:33The king was shaken and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And as he walked, he cried out, “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!”1 Kings 17:1Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was among the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there will be neither dew nor rain in these years except at my word!”1 Kings 17:2Then a revelation from the LORD came to Elijah:1 Kings 17:3“Leave here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.1 Kings 17:4And you are to drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”1 Kings 17:5So Elijah did what the LORD had told him, and he went and lived by the Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.1 Kings 17:6The ravens would bring him bread and meat in the morning and evening, and he would drink from the brook.
