Exodus 15:3Yahweh is a man of war. Yahweh is his name.Exodus 15:4He has cast Pharaoh’s chariots and his army into the sea. His chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea.Exodus 15:5The deeps cover them. They went down into the depths like a stone.Exodus 15:6Your right hand, Yahweh, is glorious in power. Your right hand, Yahweh, dashes the enemy in pieces.Exodus 15:7In the greatness of your excellency, you overthrow those who rise up against you. You send forth your wrath. A certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to live in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.Ruth 1:2The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Judah. They came into the country of Moab, and continued there.Ruth 1:3Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.Ruth 1:4They took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they lived there about ten years.Ruth 1:5Mahlon and Chilion both died, and the woman was bereaved of her two children and of her husband.Ruth 1:6Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that Yahweh had visited his people in giving them bread.Ruth 1:7She went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.Ruth 1:8Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each of you to her mother’s house: Yahweh deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me.Ruth 1:9Yahweh grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband.” Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice, and wept.Ruth 1:10They said to her, “No, but we will return with you to your people.”Ruth 1:11Naomi said, “Go back, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?Ruth 1:12Go back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, ‘I have hope,’ if I should even have a husband tonight, and should also bear sons;Ruth 1:13would you then wait until they were grown? Would you then refrain from having husbands? No, my daughters, for it grieves me much for your sakes, for the hand of Yahweh has gone out against me.”Ruth 1:14They lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth joined with her.Ruth 1:15She said, “Behold, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people, and to her god. Follow your sister-in-law.”Ruth 1:16Ruth said, “Don’t entreat me to leave you, and to return from following after you, for where you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God;Ruth 1:17where you die, will I die, and there will I be buried. Yahweh do so to me, and more also, if anything but death part you and me.”Ruth 1:18When she saw that she was steadfastly minded to go with her, she left off speaking to her.Ruth 1:19So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. It happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they asked, “Is this Naomi?”Ruth 1:20She said to them, “Don’t call me Naomi. Call me Mara; for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.Ruth 1:21I went out full, and Yahweh has brought me home again empty; why do you call me Naomi, since Yahweh has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?”Ruth 1:22So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.2 Samuel 18:19Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Let me now run, and bear the king news, how that Yahweh has avenged him of his enemies.”2 Samuel 18:20Joab said to him, “You shall not be the bearer of news this day, but you shall bear news another day. But today you shall bear no news, because the king’s son is dead.”2 Samuel 18:21Then Joab said to the Cushite, “Go, tell the king what you have seen!” The Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.2 Samuel 18:22Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, “But come what may, please let me also run after the Cushite.” Joab said, “Why do you want to run, my son, since that you will have no reward for the news?”2 Samuel 18:23“But come what may,” he said, “I will run.” He said to him, “Run!” Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.2 Samuel 18:24Now David was sitting between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.2 Samuel 18:25The watchman cried, and told the king. The king said, “If he is alone, there is news in his mouth.” He came closer and closer.2 Samuel 18:26The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the porter, and said, “Behold, a man running alone!” The king said, “He also brings news.”2 Samuel 18:27The watchman said, “I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.” The king said, “He is a good man, and comes with good news.”2 Samuel 18:28Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, “All is well.” He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, “Blessed is Yahweh your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king!”2 Samuel 18:29The king said, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent the king’s servant, even me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I don’t know what it was.”2 Samuel 18:30The king said, “Turn aside, and stand here.” He turned aside, and stood still.2 Samuel 18:31Behold, the Cushite came. The Cushite said, “News for my lord the king; for Yahweh has avenged you this day of all those who rose up against you.”2 Samuel 18:32The king said to the Cushite, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” The Cushite answered, “May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is.”2 Samuel 18:33The king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate, and wept. As he went, he said, “My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son!”1 Kings 17:1Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the foreigners of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As Yahweh, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”1 Kings 17:2The word of Yahweh came to him, saying,1 Kings 17:3“Go away from here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.1 Kings 17:4It shall be, that you shall drink of the brook. I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”1 Kings 17:5So he went and did according to the word of Yahweh; for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.1 Kings 17:6The ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
