We struck them down until no survivor was left.Deuteronomy 3:4At that time we captured all sixty of his cities. There was not a single city we failed to take—the entire region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.Deuteronomy 3:5All these cities were fortified with high walls and gates and bars, and there were many more unwalled villages.Deuteronomy 3:6We devoted them to destruction, as we had done to Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children of every city.Deuteronomy 3:7But all the livestock and plunder of the cities we carried off for ourselves.Deuteronomy 3:8At that time we took from the two kings of the Amorites the land across the Jordan, from the Arnon Valley as far as Mount Hermon—Deuteronomy 3:9which the Sidonians call Sirion but the Amorites call Senir—Deuteronomy 3:10all the cities of the plateau, all of Gilead, and all of Bashan as far as the cities of Salecah and Edrei in the kingdom of Og.Deuteronomy 3:11(For only Og king of Bashan had remained of the remnant of the Rephaim. His bed of iron, nine cubits long and four cubits wide, is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites.)Deuteronomy 3:12So at that time we took possession of this land. To the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the land beyond Aroer along the Arnon Valley, and half the hill country of Gilead, along with its cities.Deuteronomy 3:13To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og. (The entire region of Argob, the whole territory of Bashan, used to be called the land of the Rephaim.)Deuteronomy 3:14Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites. He renamed Bashan after himself, Havvoth-jair, by which it is called to this day.Deuteronomy 3:15To Machir I gave Gilead,Deuteronomy 3:16and to the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the territory from Gilead to the Arnon Valley (the middle of the valley was the border) and up to the Jabbok River, the border of the Ammonites.Deuteronomy 3:17The Jordan River in the Arabah bordered it from Chinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) with the slopes of Pisgah to the east.Deuteronomy 3:18At that time I commanded you: “The LORD your God has given you this land to possess. All your men of valor are to cross over, armed for battle, ahead of your brothers, the Israelites.Deuteronomy 3:19But your wives, your children, and your livestock—I know that you have much livestock—may remain in the cities I have given you,Deuteronomy 3:20until the LORD gives rest to your brothers as He has to you, and they too have taken possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving them across the Jordan. Then each of you may return to the possession I have given you.”Joshua 1:12But to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said,Joshua 1:13“Remember what Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you when he said, ‘The LORD your God will give you rest, and He will give you this land.’Joshua 1:14Your wives, your young children, and your livestock may remain in the land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But all your mighty men of valor must be armed for battle to cross over ahead of your brothers and help them,Joshua 1:15until the LORD gives them rest as He has done for you, and your brothers also possess the land that the LORD your God is giving them. Then you may return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of that which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”Joshua 1:16So they answered Joshua, “Everything you have commanded us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go.Joshua 1:17Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. And may the LORD your God be with you, as He was with Moses.Joshua 1:18Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words, all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”Joshua 13:15This is what Moses had given to the clans of the tribe of Reuben:Joshua 13:16The territory from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the middle of the valley, to the whole plateau beyond Medeba,Joshua 13:17to Heshbon and all its cities on the plateau, including Dibon, Bamoth-baal, Beth-baal-meon,Joshua 13:18Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,Joshua 13:19Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,Joshua 13:20Beth-peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth—Joshua 13:21all the cities of the plateau and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon until Moses killed him and the chiefs of Midian (Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba), the princes of Sihon who lived in the land.Joshua 13:22The Israelites also killed the diviner Balaam son of Beor along with the others they put to the sword.Joshua 13:23And the border of the Reubenites was the bank of the Jordan. This was the inheritance of the clans of the Reubenites, including the cities and villages.Joshua 18:7The Levites, however, have no portion among you, because their inheritance is the priesthood of the LORD. And Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received the inheritance that Moses the servant of the LORD gave them beyond the Jordan to the east.”Joshua 22:1Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of ManassehJoshua 22:2and told them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and you have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.Joshua 22:3All this time you have not deserted your brothers, up to this very day, but have kept the charge given you by the LORD your God.Joshua 22:4And now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as He promised them, you may return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan.Joshua 22:5But be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”Joshua 22:6So Joshua blessed them and sent them on their way, and they went to their homes.Joshua 22:10And when they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.Joshua 22:11Then the Israelites received the report: “Behold, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar on the border of the land of Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side.”Joshua 22:12And when they heard this, the whole congregation of Israel assembled at Shiloh to go to war against them.Joshua 22:13The Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest to the land of Gilead, to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.Joshua 22:14With him they sent ten chiefs—one family leader from each tribe of Israel, each the head of a family among the clans of Israel.Joshua 22:15They went to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead and said to them,Joshua 22:16“This is what the whole congregation of the LORD says: ‘What is this breach of faith you have committed today against the God of Israel by turning away from the LORD and building for yourselves an altar, that you might rebel against the LORD this day?Joshua 22:17Was not the sin of Peor enough for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day? It even brought a plague upon the congregation of the LORD.Joshua 22:18And now, would you turn away from the LORD? If you rebel today against the LORD, tomorrow He will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.Joshua 22:19If indeed the land of your inheritance is unclean, then cross over to the land of the LORD’s possession, where the LORD’s tabernacle stands, and take possession of it among us. But do not rebel against the LORD or against us by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.Joshua 22:20Was not Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it was not only Achan who perished because of his sin!’”Joshua 22:21Then the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered the leaders of the clans of Israel:
