1 Samuel 7:8and said to Samuel, “Do not stop crying out to the LORD our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”1 Samuel 7:9Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. He cried out to the LORD on behalf of Israel, and the LORD answered him.1 Samuel 7:10As the Philistines drew near to fight against Israel, Samuel was offering up the burnt offering. But that day the LORD thundered loudly against the Philistines and threw them into such confusion that they fled before Israel.1 Samuel 7:11Then the men of Israel charged out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, striking them down all the way to an area below Beth-car.1 Samuel 7:12Afterward, Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”1 Samuel 7:13So the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped invading the territory of Israel. And the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.1 Samuel 7:14The cities from Ekron to Gath, which the Philistines had taken, were restored to Israel, who also delivered the surrounding territory from the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between the Israelites and the Amorites.1 Samuel 7:15So Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.1 Samuel 7:16Every year he would go on a circuit from Bethel to Gilgal to Mizpah, judging Israel in all these places.1 Samuel 7:17Then he would return to Ramah because his home was there, and there he judged Israel and built an altar to the LORD.1 Samuel 8:1When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel.1 Samuel 8:2The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second was Abijah. They were judges in Beersheba.1 Samuel 8:3But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside toward dishonest gain, accepting bribes and perverting justice.1 Samuel 8:4So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.1 Samuel 8:5“Look,” they said, “you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king to judge us like all the other nations.”1 Samuel 8:6But when they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” their demand was displeasing in the sight of Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.1 Samuel 8:7And the LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. For it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king.1 Samuel 8:8Just as they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.1 Samuel 8:9Now listen to their voice; but you must solemnly warn them and show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.”1 Samuel 8:10So Samuel spoke all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king.1 Samuel 8:11He said, “This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them to serve his own chariots and horses, and to run in front of his chariots.1 Samuel 8:12He will appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of fifties, and others to plow his ground, to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.1 Samuel 8:13And he will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers.1 Samuel 8:14He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his servants.1 Samuel 8:15He will take a tenth of your grain and grape harvest and give it to his officials and servants.1 Samuel 8:16And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and donkeys and put them to his own use.1 Samuel 8:17He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.1 Samuel 8:18When that day comes, you will beg for relief from the king you have chosen, but the LORD will not answer you on that day.”1 Samuel 8:19Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We must have a king over us.1 Samuel 8:20Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to judge us, to go out before us, and to fight our battles.”1 Samuel 8:21Samuel listened to all the words of the people and repeated them in the hearing of the LORD.1 Samuel 8:22“Listen to their voice,” the LORD said to Samuel. “Appoint a king for them.” Then Samuel told the men of Israel, “Everyone must go back to his city.”1 Samuel 9:10“Good,” said Saul to his servant. “Come, let us go.” So they set out for the city where the man of God was.1 Samuel 11:12Then the people said to Samuel, “Who said that Saul should not reign over us? Bring those men here so we can kill them!”1 Samuel 11:13But Saul ordered, “No one shall be put to death this day, for today the LORD has worked salvation in Israel.”1 Samuel 11:14Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and renew the kingship there.”1 Samuel 11:15So all the people went to Gilgal and confirmed Saul as king in the presence of the LORD. There they sacrificed peace offerings before the LORD, and Saul and all the Israelites rejoiced greatly.1 Samuel 12:1Then Samuel said to all Israel, “I have listened to your voice in all that you have said to me, and I have set over you a king.1 Samuel 12:2Now here is the king walking before you, and I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day.1 Samuel 12:3Here I am. Bear witness against me before the LORD and before His anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated or oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe and closed my eyes? Tell me, and I will restore it to you.”1 Samuel 12:4“You have not cheated us or oppressed us,” they replied, “nor have you taken anything from the hand of man.”1 Samuel 12:5Samuel said to them, “The LORD is a witness against you, and His anointed is a witness today, that you have not found anything in my hand.” “He is a witness,” they replied.1 Samuel 13:11“What have you done?” Samuel asked. And Saul replied, “When I saw that the troops were deserting me, and that you did not come at the appointed time and the Philistines were gathering at Michmash,1 Samuel 13:12I thought, ‘Now the Philistines will descend upon me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the favor of the LORD.’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.”1 Samuel 13:13“You have acted foolishly,” Samuel declared. “You have not kept the command that the LORD your God gave you; if you had, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.1 Samuel 13:14But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought a man after His own heart and appointed him ruler over His people, because you have not kept the command of the LORD.”1 Samuel 13:15Then Samuel set out from Gilgal and went up to Gibeah in Benjamin. And Saul numbered the troops who were with him, about six hundred men.1 Samuel 19:18So David ran away and escaped. And he went to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went to Naioth and stayed there.1 Samuel 25:1When Samuel died, all Israel gathered to mourn for him; and they buried him at his home in Ramah. Then David set out and went down to the Wilderness of Paran.1 Samuel 28:3Now by this time Samuel had died, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, his own city. And Saul had removed the mediums and spiritists from the land.1 Samuel 28:4The Philistines gathered together and camped at Shunem, while Saul gathered all Israel and camped at Gilboa.1 Samuel 28:5When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid and trembled violently.1 Samuel 28:6He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets.1 Samuel 28:7Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I can go and consult her.” “There is a medium at Endor,” his servants replied.1 Samuel 28:8So Saul disguised himself by putting on different clothes, and he set out with two of his men. They came to the woman at night, and Saul said, “Consult a spirit for me. Bring up for me the one I name.”1 Samuel 28:9But the woman replied, “Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has killed the mediums and spiritists in the land. Why have you set a trap to get me killed?”1 Samuel 28:10Then Saul swore to her by the LORD: “As surely as the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this.”1 Samuel 28:11“Whom shall I bring up for you?” the woman asked. “Bring up Samuel,” he replied.1 Samuel 28:12But when the woman saw Samuel, she cried out in a loud voice and said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!”1 Samuel 28:13“Do not be afraid,” the king replied. “What do you see?” “I see a god coming up out of the earth,” the woman answered.
