Mark 4:10As soon as Jesus was alone with the Twelve and those around Him, they asked Him about the parable.Mark 4:11He replied, “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to those on the outside everything is expressed in parables,Mark 4:12so that, ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven.’”Mark 4:13Then Jesus said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of the parables?Mark 4:14The farmer sows the word.Mark 4:15Some are like the seeds along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.Mark 4:16Some are like the seeds sown on rocky ground. They hear the word and at once receive it with joy.Mark 4:17But they themselves have no root, and they remain for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.Mark 4:18Others are like the seeds sown among the thorns. They hear the word,Mark 4:19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.Mark 4:20Still others are like the seeds sown on good soil. They hear the word, receive it, and produce a crop—thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or a hundredfold.”Mark 4:21Jesus also said to them, “Does anyone bring in a lamp to put it under a basket or under a bed? Doesn’t he set it on a stand?Mark 4:22For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be brought to light.Mark 4:23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”Mark 4:24He went on to say, “Pay attention to what you hear. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and even more will be added to you.Mark 4:25For whoever has will be given more. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”Mark 4:26Jesus also said, “The kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed on the ground.Mark 4:27Night and day he sleeps and wakes, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he knows not how.Mark 4:28All by itself the earth produces a crop—first the stalk, then the head, then grain that ripens within.Mark 4:29And as soon as the grain is ripe, he swings the sickle, because the harvest has come.”Mark 4:30Then He asked, “To what can we compare the kingdom of God? With what parable shall we present it?Mark 4:31It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds sown upon the earth.Mark 4:32But after it is planted, it grows to be the largest of all garden plants and puts forth great branches, so that the birds of the air nest in its shade.”Mark 4:33With many such parables Jesus spoke the word to them, to the extent that they could understand.Luke 6:17Then Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of His disciples was there, along with a great number of people from all over Judea, Jerusalem, and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon.Luke 6:18They had come to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases, and those troubled by unclean spirits were healed.Luke 6:19The entire crowd was trying to touch Him, because power was coming from Him and healing them all.Luke 6:20Looking up at His disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.Luke 6:21Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.Luke 6:22Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man.Luke 6:23Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For their fathers treated the prophets in the same way.Luke 6:24But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.Luke 6:25Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.Luke 6:26Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers treated the false prophets in the same way.Luke 6:27But to those of you who will listen, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,Luke 6:28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.Luke 6:29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your cloak, do not withhold your tunic as well.Luke 6:30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what is yours, do not demand it back.Luke 6:31Do to others as you would have them do to you.Luke 6:32If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.Luke 6:33If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.Luke 6:34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.Luke 6:35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.Luke 6:36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.Luke 6:37Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.Luke 6:38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”Luke 6:39Jesus also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?Luke 6:40A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.Luke 6:41Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?Luke 6:42How can you say, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while you yourself fail to see the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.Luke 6:43No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.Luke 6:44For each tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed, figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor grapes from brambles.Luke 6:45The good man brings good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.Luke 6:46Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ but do not do what I say?Luke 6:47I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them:Luke 6:48He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.Luke 6:49But the one who hears My words and does not act on them is like a man who built his house on ground without a foundation. The torrent crashed against that house, and immediately it fell—and great was its destruction!”
