Who made it?

Crossway; more than one hundred scholars with a Translation Oversight Committee.

Why was it made?

To revise the RSV tradition into an evangelical, literary, essentially literal translation.

How did it develop?

First published in 2001, the ESV is a revision in the Tyndale–KJV–RV–ASV–RSV lineage. Crossway has issued periodic text updates; an updated text was announced for 2025.
