Who made it?
Initiated after a 1965 gathering; translated by more than one hundred scholars and overseen by the Committee on Bible Translation.
Why was it made?
To create a fresh translation from the biblical languages in clear contemporary English for an international audience.
How did it develop?
The NIV project was organized in the 1960s, the New Testament appeared in 1973, and the complete Bible in 1978. The Committee on Bible Translation continues to oversee the text, including the major 2011 update.
