To communicate the meaning of the original texts in natural contemporary English.
How did it develop?
The NLT was published in 1996, growing out of but substantially replacing the Living Bible paraphrase with a translation from Hebrew and Greek. A major second edition appeared in 2004, followed by later refinements.
