To revise the KJV in light of advances in Hebrew/Greek scholarship and English usage.
How did it develop?
The RV was the first officially authorized major revision of the KJV tradition. Its New Testament appeared in 1881 and Old Testament in 1885. It incorporated nineteenth-century textual criticism and became a parent of the ASV.
