Why was it made?

To create a modern English Bible that can be freely copied, published and distributed.

How did it develop?

The WEB began as a modernization of the public-domain ASV with updated source-text decisions and contemporary English. It is intentionally placed in the public domain and has been continuously maintained.

What source texts did it use?

Hebrew/Aramaic Masoretic tradition and modern Greek critical/traditional resources depending on edition decisions
