ful,' &c. That it might appear working, i. e. might be apprehended in its true character from its effects. Sin, therefore, and not the law, is the cause of death. And the turpitude and enormity of sin are made the more conspicuous by the law, inasmuch as it makes even that which is in itself good a source of evil.
