6. These five verses, the introduction to the three following chapters, teach us a lesson which we have before had occasion to notice. Fidelity- does not require that we should make the truth as offensive as possible. On the contrary, we are bound to endeavour, as Paul did, to allay all opposing- or inimical feelings in the minds of those whom we address, and to allow the truth, unimpeded by the exhibition of any thing offen- sive on our part, to do its work upon the heart and conscience.
