2. No practical mistake is more common or more dangerous than to suppose that all zeal about God and religion is necessarily a godly zeal. Some of the very worst forms of human character have been exhibited by men zealous for God and his service ; as, for example, the persecutors ooth in the Jewish and Christian churches. Zeal should be according to-
