many of Ood's saints are nerer fulfilled in this world. In l&e manner, " ye shall hunger/' and " ye shall mourn and weep/' are words of which the wicked, in many cases, will not know the full hittemess till hereafter.

24. — [Ye have received.] The Greek word so rendered should rather have a present sense, " ye are receiving or having your consola- tion."
26. — [Woe unto you... aU.*, speak weUofyou.'] Let that expression he carefully noted. Few of our Lord's sayings are more flatly contradictory to the common opinion hoth of the Church and the world, than this. What is more common in the world than the love of every one's praise? What more frequent in the Church than to hear it said in commendation of a minister, that " every hody likes him ! ** It seems entirely forgotten, that to he liked and approved hy every hody, is to he of the numher of those to whom Jesus says, "Woe unto you." To he uni- versally popular is a most unsatisfactory symptom, and one of which a minister of Christ should always he afraid. It may well make him douht whether he is faithfully doing his duty, and honestly declaring all the counsel of God.
