43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if an- other shall come in his own name, hhn ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and
seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
45 Do not think that I wiU ac- cuse you to the Father : there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me ; for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye beheve not his writ- ings, how shall ye believe my words ?
This passage concludes our Lord Jesus Christ's wondrous defence of His own divine mission. It is a conclusion worthy of the defence, full of heart- searching appeals to the consciences of His enemies, and rich in deep truths. A mighty sermon is followed by a mighty application.
Let us mark, in this passage, the reaso7i why many souls are lost. The Lord Jesus says to the unbelieving Jews, — " Ye will not come to me that ye might have life."
