_Canterbury, April 9, 1756._
_Honoured Sir_,
YOUR kind behaviour when I had the pleasure of waiting upon you, emboldens me to trouble you with the inclosed. It is the copy of an anonymous letter, that was sent to my house on _Tuesday_ last, just after I left town, and forwarded hither to me by my wife the day following. As I am satisfied that the LORD reigneth, and that a sparrow doth not fall to the ground without the knowledge of our heavenly Father, its contents in respect to myself, I thank GOD, do not much alarm me. But as others are concerned, and it is an affair that hath reference to the welfare of civil government, I would beg the favour of your advice. Next _Tuesday_ I expect to return to _London_, and on _Wednesday_ morning, purpose, GOD willing, to wait upon you in person. In the mean while, I beg leave to subscribe myself, honoured Sir,
