Now at length Paul has come to the open distinction between flesh and spirit } The spirit denotes either the Spirit of God, or the spirit of be- lievers, ver. 16. The latter is a new power produced and main- tained in us by Him ; and it is to this that the reference is, wherever flesh stands in opposition.
