Cyrus Ingerson Scofield was an American minister best known for the Scofield Reference Bible. His study notes helped popularize dispensational interpretations of biblical history and prophecy in twentieth-century American evangelicalism.
The reference Bible placed a theological system directly alongside the biblical text, which made the notes unusually influential for generations of readers. That influence is also why it is important to distinguish the notes from Scripture itself.
The public-domain 1917 notes are preserved here as a historical source. They represent a particular theological tradition and should be compared with the Bible text, original-language evidence and other interpreters rather than treated as part of the inspired text.
