CHRISTIAN DIFFERENCES

Mary, Saints & Intercession

All historic Christians honor faithful believers who came before them and recognize Mary as the mother of Jesus. They disagree about invocation, intercession, and devotional practice.

Catholic and Orthodox Christians ask saints to pray for them and give Mary distinctive honor while distinguishing veneration from worship owed to God alone. Most Protestants reject invocation of saints and direct prayer to God through Christ, worrying that later practices lack sufficient biblical warrant. The disagreement involves communion of saints, heavenly intercession, tradition and the sufficiency of Christ’s mediation.
