Salvation, Faith, Works & Sacraments
Christians agree that salvation depends on God’s grace through Jesus Christ, but traditions use different theological frameworks to explain justification, sanctification, sacraments, faith, works and perseverance.
Protestant traditions classically stress justification by faith apart from works as its basis, while differing on perseverance and apostasy. Catholic theology speaks of grace, faith working through love, sacramental life and cooperation enabled by grace. Orthodox theology often frames salvation as union with God or theosis. The traditions can sound as if they answer different questions, so terms must be defined before comparing them.
