Bible teaching and evangelism · 1856–1928

R. A. Torrey

Torrey's books cover Bible doctrines, evangelism, prayer, and practical discipleship. Their accessible outline style can help students organize teaching, but a confident assertion should still be checked against context and historical scholarship.

How to study this writer

Select a claim from a doctrinal chapter and prepare a two-column chart separating text that explicitly teaches it from interpretive inferences. Ask where the tradition's language becomes more precise than the passage itself.

Historical caution: Do not assume a historical author's persuasive certainty substitutes for evidence.

Responsible research practice

Read the full primary work and compare its biblical references with the actual chapter. Check when an author wrote, the community and conflict addressed, and whether a later editor compiled or translated the text. Historic works are evidence of historical interpretation, not modern professional advice or a substitute for Scripture.

Rights: U.S. public-domain sources and specifically licensed editions only. For reuse beyond this site or outside the U.S., inspect the actual edition and applicable local law.
