Council of Chalcedon

What happened?

Chalcedon confessed Jesus Christ as one person in two natures, truly divine and truly human, “without confusion, change, division or separation.”

Why it matters

The Chalcedonian Definition became a central Christological standard for Catholic, Orthodox and most later Protestant traditions, though several Oriental Orthodox churches did not receive the council.
