A QUESTION WORTH TAKING SERIOUSLY
If God Is Good, Why Is There So Much Suffering?
This is not merely a puzzle. For many people it is a wound. A Christian answer that skips grief and races to a slogan can become cruel.
Christian traditions offer several overlapping ideas: a creation that is not now as it ought to be, real human freedom and wrongdoing, the possibility of courage and love in suffering, limits on human perspective, and above all a God Christians believe entered suffering in Jesus rather than watching from a distance. None of those makes every tragedy emotionally tidy. Lament is part of the Bible too.
