Born Again: Foundations of the Christian Life

The new birth, sin and grace, the cross, repentance and faith, assurance, and new life in Christ.

Course Outline

LESSON 1

The New Birth

Primary passage: John 3:1-21

Jesus tells Nicodemus that religious knowledge and ancestry are not enough: a person must be born from above, or born again. The new birth is God’s work, not a badge we earn.

LESSON 2

Sin and Grace

Primary passage: Romans 3:9-26

Romans describes the human problem universally: all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. Christianity begins with a need we cannot repair by moral bookkeeping.

LESSON 3

Cross and Resurrection

Primary passage: 1 Corinthians 15:1-8

Paul summarizes the gospel around the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Christianity is rooted in claims about what God did in history, not merely moral advice.

LESSON 4

Repentance, Faith, and Assurance

Primary passage: Mark 1:14-15

Jesus calls people to repent and believe the gospel. Repentance is more than feeling guilty; it is a real turning toward God.
