Ephesians 2:8 belongs to a sentence that begins with the believers’ salvation and continues by explaining that it is not their own achievement. The chapter first describes humanity as dead in trespasses and sins, following destructive patterns and living under disobedience. Against that bleak description, Paul announces that God is rich in mercy and has made believers alive with Christ. The verse therefore speaks about salvation as God’s gracious action toward people who could not present their moral effort as the foundation of their rescue.
Ephesians 2:15 appears in a section addressing the separation between Jews and Gentiles. Paul says that Christ is the peace of those who were divided and that, through his flesh, he has broken down the wall of hostility. The immediate setting is not a vague appeal to friendliness; it concerns a deep religious and social division in which Gentiles had been alienated from Israel’s covenant life. Paul’s argument is that Christ’s death has dealt with the hostility and opened a shared way of access to God.

Ephesians 4:15 stands within Paul’s teaching about the church’s growth into maturity. Earlier in the chapter, believers are urged to preserve the unity of the Spirit, and leaders are described as gifts given to equip the saints for ministry. The goal is that the body should no longer be immature and unstable, easily carried about by deceptive teaching. Paul then contrasts that instability with a life of truth joined to love, directed toward growth in Christ.
Ephesians 6:11 begins the closing section of the letter, where Paul calls believers to strength in the Lord and in the might of God’s power. The command to put on the whole armor of God follows teaching about life in the church, marriage, family, work, and mutual responsibility. Spiritual conflict is therefore not detached from ordinary discipleship. The church is told to stand faithfully within its relationships and calling while recognizing that evil seeks to oppose God’s purposes.
