Safeguarding and Care Case Assessment
Study passage: 1 Peter 5:2-3. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
A future pastor needs to demonstrate judgment when confronted with abuse disclosures, vulnerable people, clinical risk, financial conflict and blurred boundaries. Written case analyses are useful but do not by themselves demonstrate practice competence. Human reviewers must assess responses against local law, ethical standards and documented policies.
Pastoral case to discuss
A fictional pastoral case combines a child safeguarding concern, a board member's conflict of interest and requests for secrecy. Which actions require outside expertise?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Prepare a 1,000-word case memo with immediate safety, documentation, referrals, accountability and unresolved questions.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
