MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 4 · UNIT 1 OF 4

Jesus in the Gospels

Study passage: Mark 1:14-15. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.

Teaching and interpretation

Mark introduces Jesus' proclamation of God's kingdom, calling for repentance and faith. Compare that announcement with scenes of healing, table fellowship and conflict. Do not reduce his mission to a private formula or a political platform. Careful teaching shows both what Jesus claimed and the social implications of how he treated people.

Pastoral case to discuss

A person asks whether following Jesus means joining a particular political movement. How can you return to the Gospel's actual claims?

Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.

Required practical exercise

Write a brief gospel explanation that cites narrative context and explicitly avoids partisan identification.

Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
